May 31 ~ Trip to Mervyn's and Whole Foods. The girls dined at 5pm on our front porch. Lovely for us, but perhaps a mistake. They didn't eat much (too busy looking around). At 7pm, they started slow but then kept eating and eating and eating. Typically, their biggest feed these days is 6 ounces. This evening, over a period of 1 1/2 hours, Syd ate 9 ounces and Sam ate 10 ounces!!! Both in the crib asleep at 8:30pm. If they don't stir, we are going to attempt skipping the 11pm dream feed. Hopefully, they won't wake at 2:30am.
May 30 ~ Samantha had a fussy day. She was beyond exhausted in the evening and refused to fall asleep. Both babies screamed during their baths (so tired and hungry). Our current challenge is their waking time. Sometimes as early as 4:30am or as late as 7:30am. One key factor is encouraging them to eat more at the "dream feed" at 11pm. Our strategy is to move their evening feed earlier (as early as 6pm). This makes it difficult for the adults to find time to eat dinner (baths, feed, settle them in the crib). The good news is that we've gotten better at settling them into the crib after that evening feed. Sydney had 2 milestones. Her total for the day was 35 ounces - a new record. More importantly, we put her down in the crib awake and she successfully got herself to sleep! (Often we have to soothe them to sleep at night - holding, rocking, pacifier, etc.
May 29 ~ Memorial Day "Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain." - Dwight D. Eisenhower
May 25 ~ The girls do not have a consistent wake time in the morning. Sometimes it's as early as 5 or as late as 7:30. So this makes it difficult to get them "back on schedule" every day. The girls had an off-schedule yesterday. They went to bed early last night, so they woke up at 3am. My new strategy is to feed them again at 8am (no matter what time they woke up). Then their next feed is at 11am. Today, our outing was a walk to the library and starbucks.
May 24 ~ Daddy home sick with a cold. Please don't let the rest of us get sick! It's amazing how much more alert, active and playful the girls are now. They spend more time on the playmat and under their TinyLove mobile (purchased at the twin sale). Mike has started reading baby books to them. "That's not my doggy" and "That's not my dolly" are our current faves.
May 23 ~ The babies slept over 8 hours last night. They didn't wake until 7:20am! I guess Daddy will have to start setting his alarm clock again, since the girls let him sleep in and he was a little late to work this morning. Our smiling girls are so active and cute in the morning. They love their playmat - kicking, swatting & grabbing toys.
May 22 ~ Busy day! Twins meeting this morning. Also visited the hospital nursery to donate some baby clothes. The nurses were nice enough to weigh the girls for us. Syd is 12 pounds 2 ounces. Sam is 12 pounds 14 ounces. Then we went to Babies R Us and Toys R Us to exchange a few items. About the bumbo seats: http://www.bumbobabyseat.com/ "The Bumbo Baby Seat is a snug and cozy environment for baby. This revolutionary infant chair is uniquely designed according to the baby?s posture. The Bumbo enables babies to sit upright all by themselves! This award winning infant chair is manufactured to the highest safety standards from low-density foam material, which makes it lightweight and portable. It is soft and comfortable for the baby, safe, hygienic and nontoxic. " To answer Granny's question: Pink isn't an option, so I ordered 2 lilac bumbos.
May 20 ~ Samantha slept almost 10 hours!!! Her last feed was 8pm, she refused to wake or eat at 11pm, then didn't wake until 6am. Dad & Grandma took the girls and Bailey to the park this afternoon. Mommy got a massage. Tonight, Mike is going to take the 11pm feed and I'm going to bed early! Tonight all 5 of us went to dinner at Max's restaurant. The girls fussed because they were tired. But we managed to get them to nap. They were quite the attraction - many questions from interested diners and waiters. Yes, they are twins. Yes, they are identical. Yes, my hands are full and my heart is overflowing. I'm glad they are mine too (and not yours). Yes, they are natural - What's an artifical twin anyway? And THE MOST popular (and annoying) comment: "Double trouble" Our response: "Twice as Nice!" (I updated the family page and uploaded the birth announcement)
May 19 ~ First grocery shopping trip. Grandma beamed while pushing the stroller and showing off the girls. I've determined that it definetly takes atleast 2 adults to go grocery shopping with twins. And by the time we got home the girls were SCREAMING with hunger (we were only gone 1 hour). Putting away those melting groceries had to wait. Sam & Grandma are taking a nap (in the swing and on the couch respectively). Syd is having a fussy day. Currently she's in the baby bjorn carrier snuggled up to me while I type this. And she's squawking so I better quit typing and pay some attn to this baby.
May 18 ~ Walk to the library and Jamba Juice. The weather was beautiful today! Big thanks for Grandma & Grandpa, Great Grandma and Aunt Linda and Uncle Bob for some cute new clothes for the girls.
May 14 ~ Both girls are gaining neck strength. Samantha enjoyed practicing her new favorite skill - turning her head so she can look at EVERYTHING. Such little things bring such great joy. BTW I can't say that I got as much sleep as I would've liked. But I did enjoy the massage and all the beautiful gifts from Mike, Sam, Syd, Bailey & Jasper!
May 14 ~ Happy Mother's Day! My request for my first official mothers day: Sleep and I want a day free from laundry and household chores. As a bonus, I'm scheduled for a massage this afternoon.
May 13 ~ 3 months old!!! Our multiples club had a used equipment & clothing sale today. We used our baby bjorn carriers to take the girls along. We purchased alot of clothing and a few toys. Tonight, we went out to dinner at Chevy's. We met another family with 10 wk old twin boys.
