April 26 ~ Feeding 2 babies at once is challenging. The boppy pillows are really helping. We're also experimenting with 2 other products.... Bottle bundle http://www.littlewonders.com/ and the Pacifeeder http://www.bonnybabies.com/pacifeeder.htm
April 20 ~ Wednesday night/Thursday morning was really difficult. I had woken on Wed morning at 5am. So by 9pm, I was ready for a break and some sleep. Many of you know that I'm never been a "naptaker". Mike agreed to take the 9pm to midnight shift. This is usually the WORST time of day for the girls. I put in my ear plugs and slept. At 2:30am, Mike came to bed exhausted. The girls had been screaming the entire night. Mike put in his ear plugs and finally slept. I finally got them to sleep at 3:30am. I only achieved 1 more hour of sleep, which unfortunately included a disturbing nightmare. The girls were fussy throughout the night. They woke at 8am for the feed and are now blissfully sleeping in their boppy pillows. My challenge is to encourage more alert time during the day. Since I've basically been awake since 2:30am, this will be a BIG challenge. The earliest Mike can get home is 6:30pm. It will be a LONG day.
April 17 ~ Appt w/ Dr Wall. 2 month checkup and 4 shots. The girls screamed! 4 very sore little legs. I'm giving them Tylenol to help the pain. We'll watch them closely for any signs of reaction/complication. Right now they are both sleeping in their swings, exhausted from the ordeal. The Dr suggested we try both girls on Zantac for 10 days for the spit-up/reflux. We are hoping this helps. If the crankiness and crying continue, it might be considered colic. We may have to switch their formula. Samantha is 10 pounds 2 ounces. Sydney is 8 pounds 14 ounces. Our next pediatrician appt will be at 4 months in mid June.
April 13 ~ Samantha & Sydney are playing. They've become more aware of their hands. They've started to grasp and swat toys. The froggy picture is for Granny.
April 11 ~ Sam & Syd are having more alert time now. But they are a little confused about how to spend that time. So far it's mostly eating or SCREAMING at me. Yep, they are getting louder each day. They often get each other going and cry together. Their cries are still VERY similar which means if I'm not in the room, I don't know which is demanding my attention. They both hate having wet/dirty diapers. They demand diaper changes frequently. Our favorite clothing right now are the zipper sleep & plays. They are eating and burping well. But we still have frequent spit ups. Lots of bibs, clothes changing and endless laundry. Having twins is certainly alot of work.... but the daily routine is a welcome change after all the hospital time.
April 10 ~ Trying out a new schedule. The girls eat approximately every 3 hours during the day. With each feeding session taking up to an hour. We've been trying to stretch out their nighttime sleep. Last night they ate at 11pm, asleep in the crib by midnight, and didn't wake until almost 5am! Their average feeds now are: 5 ounces for Samantha and 4 ounces for Sydney (7 feeds per day).
Here's our (hopeful) schedule for this week: 5am - feed then sleep in crib8am - change into daytime clothes, feed, nap in swings, some playtime 11am - feed, nap in crib, some playtime 2pm - feed, nap in swings, some playtime 5pm - feed, nap in swings 6-7pm - Cook and eat dinner 7-8pm - Baths and change into sleep clothes 8pm - quiet feed and bedtime in the crib 11pm - quiet feed and back to bed in the crib
Mike's goal is to sleep from 9pm to 5am. He does the 5am feeding solo. My goal is to sleep from midnight to 7:30am. I do the 11pm feeding solo. During their naps, my goals are to cook & eat, make bottles, do laundry, computer time, take care of Bailey & Jasper and rest. The girls LOVE their swings. Here's what they look like: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2001&e=detail&site=us&pid=30548&selcat=bgsw
April 8 ~ Sunshine and a break from the rain. Our first walk around the neighborhood with the double stroller. Mike took care of the girls while I ran errands (Target and groceries) and cooked (salmon, couscous and asparagus). It was great to get some fresh air and eat a healthy home-cooked meal. The girls often want to eat at the same time. Which can be a challenge! Our new method is using the boppy pillows. (see pictures).
April 7 ~ Finally, a few new pictures. More to come soon. We've had a good week. And hopefully we'll have a quiet wknd with Daddy.... Well, as quiet as it can be with 2 babies in the house!
April 4 ~ Mike is at work. I'm home with the girls. They have both spit-up in the past 24 hours. But thankfully so far, no projectile vomitting. Everybody please send positive thoughts our way. I would like to get through a day or 2 (atleast) without the need for a pediatrician or hospital. Thx to Kris for a delicious manicotti dinner.
April 3 ~ Samantha is recovering well. The surgeon also fixed her herneated belly button. Sydney has projectile vomitted twice in the past day. It's very unlikely (but possible) that she is having a recurrence. If she projectile vomits again, we'll take her back to Packard for another ultrasound. In very rare cases, a repeat surgery might be needed. At the pediatrician today, they were weighed. Sam is 9 pounds. Syd is 7 pounds 9 ounces.
