Ocotober 30 ~ Mel & Mike very sick with stomach flu type thing (actually think it was food poisoning). Syd vomitted at daycare. had to pick them up early. Missed Little Hands for 2nd wk in a row (last wk for vertigo).

Just felt an earthquake. 5.6 from the south/east bay. some mild shaking.

October 22 ~ I had a vertigo attack last night.  More drs appts this week (chiro, pt, etc).  Girls in daycare on M, T & R.  Had to skip Little Hands because of my dizziness.  :-(

October 21 ~ Sam went to the pool w/ Dad.  Syd went to Target & BRU with Mom.  Syd refuses to wear halloween costumes (any costume).  We have 2 more parties, so I bought them halloween themed black & orange pants/tops.  Syd also refuses to wear dresses for family portrait.  So I spent wknd rushing around malls looking for clothing for all 4 of us.

Afternoon at Stanford Mall.  Dinner out.  While running around the outdoor mall, The girls discovered the moon! (we were out past usual bedtime).  "bye bye moon" is now a common phrase.  They were thrilled to see the moon again when we got home.  It must have followed us! ;-)

October 20 ~ Halloween party at Little Hands. Duck costumes sucked.  hats and feet won't stay on.  body suit too small and poofy.  I had to do "surgery" to remove the stuffing so I could get the crotch snapped.  Syd is not a fan of costumes, easter bunny and certain clothing (like dresses).  picky, picky, picky (remind you of anyone????)
Dinner out.

October 14 ~ Syd went to pool w/ Dad.  Sam went shopping w/ Mom.  We had our (now traditional) brunch.  Bagels with cream cheese.  A few minutes of Tigger & Pooh on TV with Dad.  Then naptime....
They are resisting naps.  Falling asleep later and later.  But we can't let them sleep too late in the afternoon or bedtime is a nightmare.  This afternoon we walked to Twin Pines park for a local benefit to Save the Music in our schools.  Saw several of our neighbors and friends at the park.  Played on the slides for awhile too.  Then Dad kept them in the side yard while Mom cooked dinner.
High five was a popular game/phrase today.  Running around and around a chair was a laugh riot.

October 12 ~ It was a rainy day.  We watched squirrels and a deer on our front lawn (from the living room window).  They were so excited about the deer, they kept asking for him (like I could bring the deer back!)

October 11 ~ Favorite word/thing: bubble.  We find bubbles (actual bubbles, circles, spots, etc) everywhere.  And we get very excited about bubbles.  Who knew "bubbles" (aka bumps on the walls for example) could be so entertaining.

October 10 ~ So many new words AND PHRASES!!! Most commonly heard multiple times per day: Daddy, Mommy, Bubble, duck, bye-bye, toe, shoe & sock, all done (when finished eating/want to escape from highchair), pasta (pronounced more like zsa-zsa)......
Sam's favorite phrase: "bye bye toe". Each time I put her sleepsack on we say goodnight/bye to her toes. So now she says "bye bye toe" whenever possible (when she sees a sleepsack, when we put on socks/shoes, etc).
Other words they say: eye, ear, hat, teeth, hair, elbow, ankle, booboo, knee, toe, foot, purple, ball, block, worm, bee, girl, potty, shirt, shoe, sock, baby, cup, fork, spoon, bunny, cat, moo, (a horse says) neigh, pea, carrot, corn, bread, juice, more, cracker, cheese, apple,
Sam says Ruff Ruff Ruff and Syd says Bow Wow Wow.
Words they TRY to say: pasta, cauliflower, brocoli, waffle (faffle), peanut butter (Syd actually said it pretty clearly once),
And most days they surprise us by repeating something we said. It might take awhile for the word to become regularly used, but they are getting good. I think Syd tends to repeat/mimic words slightly better. But I think Sam talks a more often.

October 9 ~ Recent physical achievements:  Expert walkers (backwards too), fast runners, silly dancers, good climbers.....
Ride on toys (forwards, backward, getting on/off without help), Riding rocker toys at Little Hands,
Can climb up play structure, sit down and push self down the slide, get off at the bottom and repeat!
Tries to climb into highchair, tries to climb into bathtub (Sam went in before we could get her clothes off a few nights ago!)
Giving kisses and hugs (to us, each other, stuffed toys).
Gaining skills at puzzles and more precise tasks (putting balls/blocks into specific places).  Learning the fork and spoon.  They love to pick grapes off the vine and then give me the vine "All done".
Learning to help clean up (toys, food they threw on the floor, etc).  Learning to use wash cloth in bathtub and cloths to wipe their hands after meals,
Unfortunately they LOVE to run away from us.  They think it's hysterical to run down the sidewalk.  I say STOP, they turn look at me, laugh, and then run again.  They like to be chased and we try not to encourage that, but often we do have to chase them down before they get hurt.  They are SO FAST!

October 9 ~ Little Hands classes are going really well for Sydney and Samantha.  Upon arrival, they are quiet, stay near each other and observe.  Soon they are playing, later they've separated from me and each other.  Very little separation anxiety issues (many of the other kids having big LOUD issues).
I'm having a difficult time because of the level of noise.  My dizziness is worsened with overstimulation (especially crying/screaming/etc).  It's a 2 hour class once per week.  I'm unsure if I'll be able to continue.
The girls have a great time playing with everything: outdoor toys, ride-ons, push carts, rocking toys, sand box, water table, art project, musical toys, farm toys, puzzles, etc, etc.  The place is stuffed with everything a toddler could ever want to play with.  They've dealt well with the other kids and the chaos.  They snack, but haven't mastered the water cup.  LH doesn't allow sippy cups, so everytime we go home soaked (the water cups and then later the water table outside).
The combination of daycare, having each other and lots of socialization with other people and kids has really benefitted them for this environment.  I think they'll thrive in preschool...  Most likely beginning in Sept 08.  Mike's employeer offers on-site daycare/preschool (we are on the waiting list).

October 8 ~ Things they understand:  when it's time to eat (try to climb into highchair), bathe, etc.  They KNOW the routine.  "give that to your sister" (although they don't always want to take turns and/or share), Time to "go go go", "we're home", if they hear the phone ring, they say Daddy (hoping it's him), they say bye-bye to get me off of the phone and pay attn to them, when they hear the door they run to see if it's daddy (then it's madness fighting for his undivided attention), They hear the freezer door and run in kitchen asking for faffle (waffle), after getting them dressed/ready: we tell them to look in the mirror at how cute/beautiful they look, and so much more....  we are amazed DAILY at how much they know/understand/learn.
They like to pick out specific books now.  They are BORED with some our favorites.  They get 3 books before nap and bedtime.  1 pick for each of them, then 1 we choose that's a "wind down/go to sleep" type book.  Except they are bored with those books (we have 5 that we like for this purpose).

October 7 ~ Daycare is going well. They are napping slightly better. Getting along well with the other kids (similar ages). Exhausted, thirsty, hungry and cranky when they come home on Monday and Wednesday (the nights I put them to bed solo since Mike's not here). It's been a good break for me and great interaction for the kids. Mostly I've been going to MANY drs appts. Mike drops them off in AM. I pick them up in afternoon. Syd is always first to run into my arms for hugs. Sam acknowledges me, but keeps playing and lets Syd snuggle.

September 22 ~ Before the girls were born, Mike bought this safari/giraffe double chair at the local twins group sale.  I thought it was silly.  Finally brought it out for the girls.  They LOVE it.  Sydney is very particular, she prefers the left seat.  She'll push Sam outta the way to claim her spot.

September 16 ~ Samantha peed in the potty. We aren't actively potty training yet. But they like to sit on their little pink potties. It's a start.....  They know the word and sign language for "potty".
