April 6 ~ Cassie & Cathy ventured to Monterey Bay Aquarium today. Syd started out her day before 6am, fell asleep during the jog with Dad and then wouldn't go down for a nap. Poor Mike! He had to take care of them alone (while I was at a pointless doctors appt and running ridiculous errands). This afternoon was one of the most fun afternoons ever. The girls are getting good at walking! It's truly amazing to see and hear them turning into these 2 amazing little girls. I gave them 2 playground balls from ToysRUs. They went crazy! Lots of saying "ball" and squealing. Bouncing, passing, chasing, giggling, squealing, crawling, "walking" on knees, walking, endless peakaboo games, etc. The best $2.50 I've ever spent! Mike took lots of video, so hopefully he'll have some time to upload soon. Also, a few days ago, we gave them new larger "loveys". They are supposed to serve as blankets also. Sam has a giraffe and Syd has a dog. Wednesday night I woke up at 4am and heard/watched Syd on the video monitor. She was awake, snuggling her dog, and babbling away. I guess she needed to tell her doggy about her dreams?! Adorable!
April 5 ~ Music class in the morning. Cassie went with us. It wasn't a great class and I got dizzy (again). Afternoon visit with the Easter Bunny. Sam was cool. Syd HATED him. Poor Syd just kept screaming. I'll try to scan in the pic soon. Grandma Cathy brought them bunny cookies. They LOVED them. Then they had a sugar high before bed and went a little crazy playing and squealing before bedtime.
April 3 ~ Morning visit to the park. Afternoon visit at Lori's house with her 6 week old twins. Hard to believe our girls were ever that tiny! Family dinner together tonight. Crockpot beef, potatos and carrots. The girls LOVED it. They ate so much! Sam loves blackberries almost as much as blueberries. Favorite words of the day: No, tickle, go, moo, and lots of other gibberish. Getting better everyday at waving and clapping. Still in love with peekaboo. Walking more!
March 29 ~ Playdate at our house with Dalia, Chase & Christian and Hilary, Iris & Hewitt. It was a beautiful day so we spent some time outdoors. I think "naked time" after baths is history. Tonight one of the girls peed on the floor and then Sam pooped. Granted, I'd rather Sam poop before bedtime, but not on the floor! Syndey needs less sleep than her sister. Samantha is consistenly falling asleep "once her head hits the pillow" (except there's no pillow yet). Sydney stays awake playing, babbling, grunting and rolling around for atleast 15 minutes.... Sometimes for hours (like Saturday night when she didn't want Mike to leave). Last night Syd was up from about 4-5:30 am. Didn't seem to need anything. Just wanted Daddy (and to not sleep or let anyone else sleep). It's a continuous game of peekaboo. They both think it's hysterical. So silly! Sam hates the bath this week. She is okay in the tub until the water touches her then she screams like crazy. It'll be interesting to see how she reacts to the pool on Sunday at swim class. Sam has a bad habit of pulling on her sister and sometimes hitting. Syd has learned to tell her "NO!" Sam doesn't seem to get the point! We have a "Noisy Farm" book. When you ask Syd "What does the brown cow say?" She says Moo! As I tickled Syd this morning, I said "tickle, tickle" and she said "tickle"! For the moment, Sam is doing better with walking. Syd is doing better with talking.
March 26 ~ We've made the transition from formula to milk. We transitioned over a couple weeks and now they've been drinking just Whole Milk for the past week. Both like it and are doing fine with it. Jo is sick today. So I'll be trying to do the evening routine solo tonight. I despise Manic Mondays.
March 24 ~ The MPPOM auction was great. I went early with a friend. While Mike stayed with Joanna to make sure the girls went to sleep. As usual, Syd wanted Daddy. Mike eventually was able to join me. We "won" (proceeds go to Helping Hands) an auction item. A photo session with this photographer: http://www.lilacchangphotography.com/
March 23 ~ Sydney took a couple of steps tonight!!!! Samantha is practicing her steps and Syd isn't far behind. Tomorrow evening is the annual MPPOM silent auction. We are actually going to dress up and have a "date" night. Jo is babysitting for us. Hopefully we can get the kiddos exhausted to bed early enough so we can leave without worry and stress.
March 22 ~ Learning to walk, learning to talk, busy girls! Sam's word for a few days was "aroo" like the beagle puppies in one of their books. Syd has learned to "moo" when she sees a picture of a cow. Mama, Dada, baby (or byebye) and some gurgle gaggle phrase are most popular. Mike swears that Sam said something that sounded like "peekaboo". Speaking of peekaboo... They LOVE it. Especially Syd. They've learned to play it with us and with each other. They are also "chasing (crawling)" around after each other (around the coffee table is popular). Sammy is LOVING swim class. She squealed through most of our latest class. She's brave and having a blast. Syd is mesmerized by her own reflection in the mirror. She's having a great time playing with the mirror. They are getting very skilled at waving "hi" and "bye". Clapping too! I think they are starting to use some of the American Sign Language from the Signing Times show. However I haven't memorized all the signs (since I'm often half watching, half getting all the stuff ready for naptime), so I'm not sure what they are trying to tell me! Sam's getting another tooth (which will make 6 so far - 2 on bottom, 4 on top). Syd still has her 8 that she got pretty much all at once. I'm not sure if she's got anymore currently brewing. They are both chewing on everything in sight. They've gotten very attached to their loveys - Syd's ducky & Sam's lamby. Some evenings, it's a big smooch fest where they are thrilled to give us kisses. Other nights, they just shake their heads no. Maybe we have bad breath those nights? ;-)
March 20 ~ Attended an open house for "pre-preschool". It's a Co-op. Basically, we (Sam, Syd & Mom) would attend and participate in a 2 hour class per week. It's a great way to meet more families. There are a few other responsibilities and several social events during the year. There is a limit on how many twins they'll allow per class.... so we aren't guaranteed a spot. Here's more info:
March 18 ~ Changing the clocks has changed our routine. We are trying to have family dinners together (since the girls are going to bed a little later). It's pretty difficult to prepare an edible dinner while 2 little cling-ons beg for mommy's attention. Emily, our 9 year old neighbor, is going to be our "mommy's helper" a couple hours a week. Basically, she'll get to play with the kids while I do something mundane nearby (cooking, laundry, etc).
