We found a great site, www.localharvest.org
which guides you to the freshest (and greenest) food in your
neighborhood. Most of the local farms listed have kid friendly
activities so that your kids can go out and learn more about
the farm, its produce and farm animals.
One of our family’s favorite memories was going, as
a child, to a “pick your own” farm and grazing
among the rows of strawberries, eating one for every two that
actually made it in the basket. Pickyourown.org provides you
with a list of farms near you. Take your kids and show them
where their food comes from!
This month we are asking our community to support their local
farmers and show their kids where food is grown. Email us
a picture of your outing and we might feature your site!
Create a children’s garden!
Growing a children’s garden is an easy way to provide
a fun and educational hobby for your entire family. And you
are in your own backyard! Gardening is an educational way
to watch the cycle of life and also builds self confidence
in your little ones as they watch the fruits of their labor
grow. An added perk is that it may be easier to get your kids
to eat healthier foods if they grow the vegetables themselves.
There are just too many possibilities for us to list them
all but you can have plants with bright colors, some that
have different textures, some that are good for butterfly
habitats or everyone’s favorite, the edible garden.
We are challenging our BHP members to start a garden with
their children in celebration of Earth Day and we would love
for you to send us a picture. One lucky winner will win a
“Fridge Box”, see details on the bottom of the
newsletter. Go crazy with those themes and we might choose
you for a feature!
In case you haven't noticed, there's now a easy way
for Super Baby Club members to have background music play
continuously while visitors browse around your site. Once
you upload a music file all you need to do is check the box
labeled "Play in Background".
If your kids are no longer "babies"
you may not want to get to your site using "babyhomepages.net"
in your address. You can always view your site using one of
our other domains. Just replace "babyhomepages.net"
with any of the following in your address:
easyhomepages.net,
kidshomepages.net,
or ourhomepages.net.
Green Homemade Cleaners
Making cleaners out of items already in the kitchen can
not only be helpful when in a pinch but better for the environment
(and your kids).
Need to clean some old copper pieces in the kitchen? Did
you know that baking soda was the primary cleaning agent in
the restoration of the Statue of Liberty? She’s made
of copper. If it can shine up our lady liberty imagine what
it can do for your house?
What happens when one woman decides to make a toy that
is non-toxic, recycled, creative, earth friendly, compostable,
doesn’t require batteries and is fun? The Fridge Box!
April Capil’s company sells cardboard boxes that can either
convert into a cottage/flower shop or into a race car/pirate
ship. Kids can decorate the boxes with their hearts imagination
with either stickers or eco friendly paints.
April is offering one BHP member the chance to win a fridge
box for their kids. All you have to do is send
us a photo of your “kids garden” based upon
this issue of Nap Time! One random winner will get their choice
of the flower shop or pirate ship. And when you are done with
it, you can turn it into compost for your garden.
Hazelnut
Kids’ motto is “Give your child's imagination a
gift”. This is easy to do with their huge selection of
natural, earth friendly toys and products. When you shop at
Hazelnut Kids you are supporting the health of children and
our planet. That’s because they donate a percentage of
sales to help the environment. For every item you purchase they
have one tree planted through Trees for the Future, except for
Earth Day, where they will be doubling their donation to land
conversation and tripling the planting of trees.
Hazelnut Kids is offering BHP members a chance to win a wooden
cone sorter! All you have to do is email
us a photo of an activity you do with your children that
reflects the idea of “think globally, act locally”.
A random winner will win this earth friendly toy!
