Stories March 14, 2009 Wow. What a day we had today! Bowie has been doing a great job keeping his diaper off during the day lately. At home, he would pee in his little potty or the big potty. JeanMarie would take him on little trips without a diaper on and things had been going well. Today, we went to two stores and he peed in both of them... first time peeing in a public place. Then, just now, he made a poop on his potty for the first time ever! We are all so happy. It is such a huge step forward. Odd to be so excited about poop but it has been a long time coming. September 6, 2008 The summer has been great! We have spent many days at the pool, park, and at friends' houses. We went to Hershey, PA, with my mother, brother and his family. Bowie loves his cousins and they are so cute with him. Little Frankie (age 7) gives Bowie whatever he wants without a fuss and Cameron (age 4) acts like a mommy and takes care of him. I wish we lived closer to each other. Bowie is speaking in sentences now and is very smart. He asks questions, makes comments, and tells us wants he wants to eat and wear. He is so sweet. When I am brushing my hair, he says "mommy is so pretty". He loves bandaids and we have gone through many boxes because of fake "boo boos". He says, "I have boo boo and need bandaid" whenever he bumps himself or falls. Bowie sings at the top of his lungs Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the ABCs, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. He even often sings on the phone to Grandma Jeanne, Frankie and Cameron. Bowie goes to breakfast with daddy almost every Saturday to give me time to sleep. Bowie loves going in "Daddy car". The thought of them hanging out together as guys brings tears to me eyes. I can picture this going on for many years. Bowie loves his daddy. When Todd goes to work, we sing "daddy goes to work, so Bowie can play". We then blow kisses and wave from the front door. When Todd gets home, Bowie stops what he is doing immediately and runs to the door to give him a big hug and kiss. Bowie is growing like a weed these days. He is gaining weight, growing tall, and learning constantly. He is starting preschool on Monday. It is just one day a week for 2 hours but I can't help feeling proud and sad, all at the same time. My baby is growing up so fast. June 1, 2008 Bowie has been developing quite quickly these days. He does more and more each day. Just now, when getting ready for a bath, he said, "potty". So, we put a stool in front of the toilet and, sure enough, he peed. That was the first time doing that on a toilet, as opposed to his plastic potty. He beems when we praise him for being such a big boy. About two weeks ago, we were playing and he said, "so happy!". You can be sure that I have never heard sweeter words. He is currently singing the alphabet song in the bathtub. He sings other songs too. He is good at counting from zero to ten, recognizing numbers, and counting fingers held up. He knows he is two years old. He recognizes many letters and is getting better at colors. He is also starting to string words together into better sentences. He repeats absolutely everything and is really very articulate. He is polite; is starting to cover his mouth when he coughs, says bless you when someone sneezes, says sorry and thank you. He loves to say hi to people and remembers peoples' names better than I do. His sleeping has improved the past couple of months. As a result, so has ours! He loves to hop into 'Bowie's seat' in 'Daddy's car'. We give him ice cream cones which he licks for a while and then bites into the side of the cone. March 9, 2008 Today, Bowie said 'thank you' appropriately, without prompting. The other day, he counted to ten by himself, also without prompting or error. (He has been counting to ten, even twelve, for a long time but he would often omit 7 and 8). A week before, he pointed to a train and said the train's name. I had to look at the bottom of the train to see if he was right. Scary, that barely at the age of 2, Bowie already knows things that I don't. :) Todd November 12, 2007 It is hard to believe that Bowie is already 21 months old. I recently told a younger friend of mine that, even though being a parent is difficult at times, it is still the best thing that can ever happen to you. Bowie's laugh is infectious and he has such a cute, toothy grin. Last night Jean Marie laid him in his crib to sleep and he just said 'bye' in his sweet little voice. For a while now, he has been parrotting us. His brain is an amazing sponge at this age, retaining and responding to things that he only briefly encountered. What struck me yesterday was that he is not just passively remembering but actively trying to learn. Today was the first time that I noticed him singing by repeating a simple 'do do do' tune. Every day is something new. Whenever we can, we take pictures, take videos, and write things down but his development outpaces our best efforts. We foundly remember his infancy, enjoy his every move today, and look forward to what the next day brings. Todd March 16, 2007 I have been reminiscing over the past 13 months lately. I'll never forget that first hour with such a helpless little baby left in my rookie arms. The first weeks, I whispered the alphabet, numbers, and even multiplication tables, in hopes that it might subliminally register later on. The first six months, we sang any song, made up or otherwise, that had 'baby' or could fit 'Bowie' in it. I would whisper positive reinforcements to Bowie as he fell asleep. Now, Bowie puts himself to sleep and is by no means helpless. His preferred method of transportation is walking. He rarely falls and can get up by himself in the middle of the floor. He gives us kisses (which just melts our hearts). He waves, claps, and otherwise mimics things that we say. Now, when he makes it to the top of the steps, he just wants to practice coming back down. Everyone marvels at what a good boy he is and they are right. He is simply the best. Signed, his proud father. February 24th, 2007 Bowie is walking everywhere now and he looks like such a little man. He still falls on his butt when he gets too excited and goes too fast. He had another molar tooth come in last night so we were up every 2 hours or so. Poor baby. Even with his teething pain he is a really happy boy. He is always laughing and smiling. He says many things now. The latest words added are "hello" and "no". He picks up the phone and say "lo".
February 6th, 2007 Bowie is 1 year old today!!! He had a hard day though. A molar came in last night so he was up all night and he got his immunizations today. He has a fever and is not very happy but he is sleeping now. He did have fun playing with his cake though. We are having another party with his friends and their parents on Sunday so hopefully he will be in a better mood. He always has fun when his friends come over to play. January 6th, 2007 Bowie took 4 steps today on his 11 month birthday exactly. He stood for a while and then decided to try to walk to us. He was so excited! We are trying to get a video but he seems to be camera shy right now. We had a great time in NY over the holidays. Bowie has so many toys and clothes right now we are definitely good for a while. Bowie had another tooth come in over Christmas. He now has 8 and his molars are now starting to bother him. December 16th, 2006 Bowie climbed up the entire staircase by himself (with daddy behind him of course). He was pretty quick and quite confident. December 6th, 2006 Bowie is 10 months old now and he is really mobile. He is crawling very fast and pulling up on furniture and the walls. He cruises around holding onto everything and gets into trouble :) He also has 7 teeth already!! November 7th, 2006 Bowie had his doctor's appointment today. He weighs 22lbs 14oz and is 29.75 inches tall. He did really well with his flu shot.
October 27th, 2006 Bowie is starting to crawl now but it is still slow going though. He prefers to do an "Army Crawl". He is getting around really well though and is very strong. He pulls himself up to his knees or feet whenever he gets the chance. I have slowly been removing furniture and other items from our livingroom as he discovers them. His favorite mess to make is throwing our DVDs all over the room. We have had several playdates and Bowie seems to really like playing with his little friends. Barrett and Bryant came over the other day and they had fun. It gives us moms a chance to sit and talk alittle while the boys entertain themselves. September 19, 2006

Bowie is up on his hands and knees now and rocking back and forth. He will be crawling anyday. He has two upper teeth now but not the front teeth. The two side teeth are in and he looks like a little vampire :) I am trying to get a picture of them. You can see them in this picture. August 20th, 2006
Bowie was Baptised today. He did really well- barely cried at all. The Pastor called us up to the alter with our family behind us. He blessed Bowie in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit while pouring holy water on his head each time. Bowie cried just a little when he was blessed with the holy spirit :) The Pastor had us go up to the alter after the ceremony and show Bowie off to the congregation as the Choir sang the lullaby "Bowie Vaughn". I couldn't believe they were singing his name- it was so nice. There were a ton of people at mass. After the Baptism, Bowie took a nap on Aunt Deidre for most of the reamaining mass. After the mass ended quite a few people came over to congratulate Bowie on his Baptism. It was a wonderful experience! Bowie's Video
August 7th, 2006 Doctor's appointment update: Bowie is 27 inches long and 19.4 lbs. He did really well as the doctor examined him. He is right on track for his development and even well advanced in some areas. He is doing things now that are expected of a 7 and 8 month old. Bowie is desperatly trying to crawl now. It is so cute to watch him pull his chubby legs under his belly and push off. He is not yet strong enough to lift his body with his arms so his efforts are frustrating him. He kind of slides across the floor very slowly. It was so sad when the doc gave him his shots. He was smiling and laughing and then he went silent and started crying hysterically. It just broke my heart. The look on his face was "How can you let her hurt me". Todd keeps telling me that the shots are so good for him but it still makes me sad to see him cry like that. He had a little fever that night and was fussy. He was not eating well for a couple of days. Today, August 9th, he is still a little fussy and not eating as much but he is getting back to normal. I bet his legs are still sore.:( August 6th, 2006
We went to Cooper's Rock today. Bowie was very excited to see all the trees and other children. We visited Bowie's Great Grandma Rose's spot and took a few pictures so we can tell him about her when he is older. We saw a giant rattlesnake crawling very slowly across the grass. Of course Todd had to get a closer look- the big baby. When we were on the outlook a lady took a family shot of us but only got the top portion of our heads. I asked her to re-take it but she did the same thing again.:) It is so amazing to me to see how much Bowie changes everyday. He is so much more independant now. He grabs at everything and makes noises to get our attention. He pushes away the spoon or bottle when he is no longer hungry. Bowie is finding new ways to get his point across. He is now rolling over to sleep on his belly at night. There is no stopping him. July 21st, 2006 We had an impromptu visit from my mom, and cousins Sue and Ryan . They arrived at about 2:30am and my mom and Sue wanted to see Bowie so bad that they had me wake him up. He was so cute. He was smiling and laughing even at 2:30am after being woken up. We had a great visit. My mom and Sue couldn't get enough of him. They would playfully fight over who got to hold him next. We had a barbeque at Grandpa Darwin's house, we went shopping, went swimming in Joe Pride's pool, and ate alot:) We love having visitors!!
