8/18/06: Yesterday morning the kids woke up to find out it was a "Stay at Home Day". This means they can choose whatever they want to wear because we won't be leaving the house. As usual, Maddy chose a princess costume. She picked her Little Mermaid outfit that Tete bought her for her 4th birthday. It has a slit up the middle in the back of the fin. The outfit is too small for Maddy so she was tugging at it all day to keep it from riding up. The whole time she had it on I could see her entire bottom because the slit was up around her waist in the back. Eventually she took it off to go play something else. Emma decided to put on the costume. When Maddy came into the toy room and saw that Emma was wearing her outfit, Maddy screamed at Emma, "You can't wear that, it's mine from my Tete!" Well, Emma started crying then Maddy started crying. After they were both calmed down a bit, I talked to Maddy about the outfit not fitting her anymore... The poor little thing was so upset! She was crying tears of sadness, not anger. She told me she doesn't want to grow up. She wants to stay little. She went on about how she doesn't want to start kindergarten, she doesn't want to miss Mom's club, It's not fair that Emma and Landon get to be with me and she doesn't. She said that it's too long to be gone from home when she's in school... She had tears pouring down her face as she was telling me all of this. She was weepy about it for awhile. When Christian got home she gave him the tear filled story too about not wanting to grow up.....ending with, "Will you please buy me a new Little Mermaid costume in a size 7?"
I know she will love kindergarten once it gets started, but obviously she has some concerns going into it. We have an appointment on Wednesday the 23rd at 3:45 to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, and familiarize herself with the school a little bit. Hopefully this will calm her nerves. It's tough being Five!
8/14/06: This past weekend was not that busy for the Torresluna family. We were able to spend a lot of time at home which is nice. On Friday night the Love's invited us to go to Oak Canyon Nature Center for family night. We went on a short hike and then set up for "A Bug's Life" movie outdoors. It was really cool. We all had a great time!
Saturday, Christian and Tracy helped Sam paint the inside of their brand new house that they will be moving into in this week. The Aguilars bought a house in Lake Elsinore. We will still see them, but probably not as often as we'd like. L.E. is about an hour away. But, we'll still make it to their house for our annual Superbowl party! The kids and I hung around the house all day on Sautrday.
Sunday we went to a 60th birthday party for my great aunt and uncle (they are twins). We saw many family members from my mom's side that we hadn't seen in awhile. It was a brunch Shilo Inn, near our home. Many of the family had to drive a ways to go to the party. This time my family was the lucky one that got to stay close to home. Happy Birthday Craig and Terry!
8/13/06: Landon is changing every day...He now has 6 teeth! Yep, I saw the two new ones in there today. I didn't even know he was teething. He now has 2 on the bottom and 4 on the top. Also, he is getting up on his knees and rocking. He is able to move around quite quickly even though he is not crawling. He moves sitting on his bottom or he moves with his legs while on his tummy. But, it won't be long and he will be crawling all over the place. He just has to figure out how to make his hands move forward while on his knees so that he doesn't fall on his face. He'll figure it out eventually; trial and error works wonders! Ouch!!
8/13/06: Check out our new video at Malibu beach with the cousins. Just click on the film strip below. Did any of you watch that hilarious video "Silly Girls, Green Boots" by the Torresluna Girls? Whenever I want a good laugh, I watch it again. Maybe it's because they are my silly girls doing it, but I think it is so funny! My favorite part is when they try to give eachother high five's and miss every time! If you havn't watched it, check it out.
8/11/06: Wednesday night we drove out to Los Angeles to watch the L.A. Dodgers play the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers were on an 11 game winning streak so we thought we were in to see another winning game! Nope...:( The Dodgers lost it in the 9th inning when the Rockies scored two runs to break the tie and win the game 3-1. It was sad to see our Dodgers lose, but it was so much fun to be at the game with so many people from our family. We stretched out across two rows; there were so many of us, it was hard to visit with everybody. My parents are and always have been big Dodger fans. All of our family is. Christian and I are the only ones who live in Orange County. Our home team is the Anaheim Angels. But the Dodgers will always be my favorite team!!
8/9/06: We had such a great time at Malibu beach the other day with my two sisters. The weather was gorgeous for most of the day. The kids dug for sand crabs and saved them all in a bucket until it was time to go home. They must have caught over 100 sand crabs. Madeline is now calling Malibu "the sandcrab beach". Emma calls it "the beach with big waves". We all had so much fun watching the girls enjoy themselves and play in the water. The last hour of the day Tina, Amanda, and I decided to join the girls in the water. We had a blast and the kids loved us being in the waves with them. The waves were enormous! They were so big that the girls couldn't even go out alone in the water a little; we were too nervous that a wave would carry them out. Tina and I decided to go out far to swim past the waves, but after we both fell and the waves tumbled us back onto the shore, we decided maybe another day.... We must have looked like such fools, but we were laughing so hard, we didn't even notice if anyone was watching us. It was an extremely fun day that we will treasure in our memories forever!
8/02/06: We have been busy staying cool these past few weeks. We had a record breaking heat wave. It's finally over (hopefully til next summer!) It has been in the low 80's the last couple of days. We have been hanging around the house mostly since we've been home from Palm Springs and New York.
Tonight I will be driving out to Agoura to go to the beach in Malibu with my sisters tomorrow. I havn't seen Tina and her girls in over a month! It will be nice to visit and spend the day soaking up the sun. Believe it or not, Tina and I have never taken our kids to the beach together. I think they will have a blast! It was Amanda's great idea, and we are all looking forward to it.
Landon will celebrate his birthday this month! I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. We will be doing his baby dedication at church in the morning on the 27th and then a BBQ at the park afterwards for his birthday. The invitations will be going out soon; but mark your calendars to save the date. The dedication will be at 9AM and then the BBQ from 11 til 2PM. Please join us in celebrating our baby boy's big day!
Landon finally got his top two front teeth. The right one has broken through the gums, but the left has not cut through yet. They don't seem to be bothering him any. He's such a happy boy!
I spent three days in Rochester, visiting our East Coast office. The whole company congregated there for a mid year kick off event. We met for business but also had lots of fun. On Sunday, I went golfing in the morning, I absolutely got the bug now. I thoroughly enjoyed and am looking forward to playing again (Much to Julie's dismay). The gentlemen I played with were very kind as I was very inexperienced, but I did have some really good shots. I then joined the rest of the company for a boat cruise on one of the Finger lakes. We then enjoyed a cocktail party and wine tasting event at the Esperanza Mansion followed by dinner. You can see where we were at here:
www.esperanzamansion.com It was good to meet everyone from NY. One of the Commercial Account Officers (CAO) likes Neil Diamond about as much as I do. We had fun singing together on the cruise. I really hit it off with everyone from the office.
On Monday and Tuesday we had business meetings and training. It was great getting to see presentations from all of the departments. I am truly proud of the company and after this trip am even more proud. I look forward to a bright future under great leadership. I never thought that I would be able to find a company better than ECCU, but I truly have. This place is great and they make a great investment their people.
On Tuesday night we went for a cruise on the Erie Canal (
http://www.colonialbelle.com/). It was so much fun. It was like a two hour cruise on the Pirates of the Carribean ride and Jungle cruise. It was great getting to know all of my coworkers in New York. More pictures to come but here are a few. The people in NY are so kind and Rochester is beautiful. Very lush and green, but I hear that winters are brutal; however, last winter was mild. (Maybe Al Gore is right about global warming?) Anyway, I get to go back in September for advanced finance training. I am looking forward to seeing all of my new friends in Rochester
.
On the way home we spent 2 hours at JFK airport. All of Jerry Seinfelds jokes about the airport are true. While there I had a slice of real NY style pizza and an Authentic Kraut and NY Onion dog from the Papaya King. If you watch the food network you will know what that means. It was great. The flight to and from was great. I flew on Jet Blue and had my own TV. I watched some really good shows and even caught Casino. Perfect since I was heading to NY. It is a good Mafia Movie. It is good to be home, that was a long time away from the family. But jet lag stinks! I guess while I was gone Landon was very clingy. Julie warned me about this so as not to get my feelings hurt when I saw him. But, he fell right into my arms the first time I saw him. It was great. He has such a special place in my heart, it felt so good to hold my boy. It was just as good to hold all my family. 3000 miles is a long way from home.
7/26/06: Landon says "Emma" now! It is so cute! Every time she comes into the room Landon says, "Emma, Emma, Emma, Emma.....". Maddy wants him to say her name now. He also has learned the sign for "baby" this week. It's all happening so fast!
Landon has been really clingy lately. He has been crying if I am out of site and if I hand him off to somebody he starts screaming. I don't know if it's because I was gone so much last week. Maybe it's because he's going get his two front teeth any day?? Maybe he is missing Christian? I don't know? Maybe it's just an 11-month thing? Hopefully it will pass quickly. I don't like to see him get so worked up. He usually doesn't cry much at all. He is a very happy baby.
7/26/06: Palm Springs was great! It was so nice to go to an air conditioned place to sit around and relax with people I love! We watched a lot of movies, played a lot of board games, ate really good food, and swam at the pool. It was truly a vacation! It was short, but sweet! I left after the BBQ on Sunday and got to Palm Springs about 4:00 PM. The drive was quick. Sean and Michele were there on Sunday too, but they left that evening. It was great to see them. On Monday, Jen watched the kids and Fran treated for the two of us to have full body Swedish massages at the Marriot Spa. It was so relaxing!!! The kids are all crazy about Jen, and she's crazy about them too! It was also fun for Fran and the kdis to get to know eachother better. Fran was wonderful with all of them! The weather was hot of course, but we were indoors almost the entire time. We went swimming in the mornings and nights, and we left the time- share to go out to dinner two times. We had a very, very relaxing time!! Thank you Jen and Fran for giving the kids and I such a treat of a get-away!!! We loved every second of it!
7/26/06: There were 70 children that came back for the VBS music performance and BBQ on Sunday. That was an awesome turn out. The program went very well! The kids sounded great. Maddy was very tired from the whole week of VBS and being at the circus late the night before. It all showed up on Sunday morning. She was crying from being scared of all the thunder and she didn't want to leave my side. When it was time to go on stage she just wanted to sit with me. I made her go up on stage, but she did not do it happily. Half way through the program she warmed up to sing and do the hand motions. My poor children needed a vacation as much as I did!
Like I mentioned, Yes, there were thunder storms on Sunday morning. It rained so hard that we could hear the rain pounding on the sanctuary roof. We were supposed to have a big "Blow Up Water Slide" for the
BBQ, but the water slide company wouldn't put it up with all the wind and lightning. That was really dissappointing to the kids, but safety comes first. It was 95 degrees and pouring down rain??? Not typical California weather. Who woulda guessed it? But, it was still a great day.
7/22/06: Today the weather was VERY HOT!!! It was the hottest day of the summer yet! It haas ben over 90 degrees for about 3 weeks now. But today it was 106 in Fullerton! It was absolutely unbearable. I took the kids out to go shopping at Sam's Club to buy all the goods for tomorrow's BBQ, then we went to the church to put it all away. While at the church, I decided to let the kids play in the air conditioned room for awhile. We stayed there for a couple hours to escape the worst heat of the day. When we arrived home at 4PM the inside of our house didn't feel any cooler than the outside. I can't wait for Fall!!
Amanda called on my cell while we were hangin' out at church. She invited us to go to the Ringling Bros & Barnum and Bailey Circus. Luis gets free tickets since he works fo their advertising agency. We also went last year. Last year we had top of the place seats. But tonight, we were in the SEVENTH ROW!! It was so cool to be that close to the animals and all of the clowns, acrobats, and performers. I thought Landon might get a little fussy having to sit still in the seat for so long. NO way! He was into the show just as much as the girls were. He was laughing and clapping at all the right parts. We had a blast! Thanks for going with us Auntie Manda. Thanks for the tickets and the souveniours Luis!!
While we were watching one of the extraordinarily talented acrobats, Maddy said, "He must eat all of his fruits and vegetables."
7/22/06: Christian is now flying to Rochester, NY for a business trip with his company, First American Equipment Finance. His friend, Tracy, came this morning to pick him up for the airport. The flight was leaving at 7AM. He is actually still in the air now as I am typing. The company flew out all the CA employees to NY for a "Mid-Year Event". They will go back in mid September for training. The kids and I will go pick him up up from the airport on Wednesday afternoon. We will all miss him very much!!
While Christian is gone in NY the kids and I are going to Palm Springs with my friend Jen and her mom, Fran. They have a time-share there. It is 117 degrees there today...we call this vacation?? I love to spend time with Jen and Fran and it will be really nice to be out while Christian is gone. We will leave after the VBS BBQ tomorrow and come home on Tuesday night. Although it is really hot outside in Palm Springs, at least we will have air conditioning in the condo (more than I can say for our house!!) It will be a very fun trip; I am looking forward to the get-away.
The five nights of vacation bible school are over. It was such a great week!! I thoroughly enjoyed the children and the staff. The kids were so enthusiastic and fun. Everyone had really good attitudes and made a terrific time for all. Overall we had 90 kids over the 5 nights. That's huge! I am curious to see how many of the children will come back on Sunday for the performance. The BBQ is going to be so much fun. Look forward to pictures of the day. God bless!
7/20/06: Vacation Bible School is going awesome!! It is now Thursday and we are half way done. We have continued to have a ton of children come through the doors to learn more about Jesus! It is awesome to watch the kids learn the fun music, have a great time, and meet new friends. The VBS staff has been so great! We are all a ltittle tired, but the excitement of the children keeps us goin'! We are all on a treasure hunt on this SonTreasure Island. They have found the treasure...God's Love!
Christian has been really good with the kids this week. He is not working VBS, but it has been nice not to have to take Emma and Landon every night with me. I am there from 9 - 12 for work (with the kids in childcare at church), and then back from 5- 9PM for VBS. It would be really hard on them, especially Landon to have to be in the nursury all that time! Christian took Landon to Men's Bible study with him last night. Emma has gone a few nights to VBS-childcare, and Maddy is in VBS in the kindergarten class. She's on "Team Fabulous Fireflies".
7/19/06: This is the craziest and busiest week of the year for my job as Director of Chilren's Ministry at our church. This is VBS week. The theme of the week is "Treasure Island". The kids are having a blast! There are more children here this week for VBS than ever before! We've had 90 children!! Pray for me and all the rest of the volunteers this week. We will be at church every night this week and on Sunday for a BBQ and water day. Some of the teachers have up to 25 kids! Oh what fun!! Ahoy!
7/14/06: We were out to breakfast yesterday morning with my mom and my sister and Emma put my sunglasses on. They have a yellowish-browm tint to the lenses. As soon as she put them on she said, "Everything looks chocolatey." That's one way of looking at it!!? Cute!
7/12/06: We couldn't find a babysitter to go out without the kids for our anniversary night. It's hard for us on a Wednesday because the church youth group (jr. hi & hi school) meet on Wednesday night. Our regular babysitter, Trianne was busy. We were dissappointed because we had plans of going boogy boarding in Newport and to Ruby's on the pier for dinner. But, we made the best of it and took the whole family to Soup Plantation for dinner and Barnes and Noble to look around. The girls love the children's book section there. It ended up being a really nice evening. We get to do our boogie boarding and Ruby's on Friday afternoon/evening. Happy anniversary to my wonderful husband who has given me 9 splendid years of marriage. I look forward to see what the future holds for us the next 9 years. I love you Babe!
7/10/06: Pretty soon Landon will be adding so many new words to his vocabulary and sign language, I won't be able to catch up with him. In the last few days he has learned to say, "uh-oh" when he drops something, and "Hello" with his hand or a toy phone up to his ear. His new signs are: airplane, thank- you, hat, and phone.
7/8/06: Landon is starting to show signs of wanting to crawl. When he is sitting up, he leans over and gets on one knee. But, his other leg is trapped beneath him. So, he gets frustrated and sits back up. Also, he used to hate to be on his tummy, but now he is rolling all over the place. That is how he is getting form one place to another. He tries to pull his knees under him to crawl, but no success yet! We're in no hurry, he'll do it when he's ready.
7/8/06: The girls have been playing a little better with eachother lately. They have a tendency to fight when they play without me or Christian. In the past 3 or 4 days there have been times where they go into the toy area or their bedroom and don't come out for an hour or more because they are playing house, school, doctor... or some make-believe story. I hope this is a sign of what is to come. We wanted to have our children close together so that they would have playmates, it's so nice to see them enjoying eachother!
7/6/06: Christian closed his first deal at work. The expectation of the company is that you close a lease within your first year... Christian has only been there for three months and he did it already! I am so proud of him! He is really happy too.
7/4/06: Landon is communicating so much! He has 4 words now: Mama, Dada, Bobo (Bodie, our dog), and nana (night night). He is also doing some sign language: all done, more, please, drink, hi, bye-bye, kiss, and dog. He's too cute!!
