10/3/05: On Landon's 1 month birthday Itook him to Northridge to have his hand and footprints done by "The Little Print Company". I had the girls done when they were a month old too. They are beautiful! This company does prints like none you've ever seen. I can't wait to get Landon's back to hang them on the wall with the others. Amanda and my mom met me there to do it. We went for lunch afterwards. It was nice to see them!
On Saturday we went to the Apple Farm with Jen. It was a hot day for it but we still had tons of fun! It was quite interesting spending the entire day out of the house. Trying to arrange feeding times and diaper changes was a challenge, especially when all there are up there are outhouses for restrooms! It was nice to have Jen there so we were 3 kids with 3 adults. One on one ratio is always good! Thanks Jen.
9/28/05: Yesterday was Mom's club at church. All the kids brought their bikes to the church. Many of them brought more than one bike so they could share with eachother. Maddy and Emma both enjoyed using a scooter that belonged to Bryce. I think we will probably get them both scooters for Christmas this year.
Today Maddy had a doctor apointment to update her shot records for preschool. She had to get three shots. She cried for a little bit, but was fine after a few seconds. While I was there I had the nurse weigh Landon. He was 9.4 pounds. He will be a month on Friday. I can't believe it!
9/21/05: I went to bed on Monday night thinking I might have a cold or allergies. I woke up on Tuesday morning with a full blown head-cold! Last night was terrible having to wake up every three hours to feed Landon when I wasn't feeling well (and no Niquil for breast feeding mothers). Today when Christian was leaving for work I jokingly told him that I wanted to call in sick "to work" today. being a Mommy you get no "sick days"...so I thought! Christian came home from work today at 3 PM and took the girls to a movie and to McDonald's Playland for dinner. They didn't get home until 7:30 PM. It was so relaxing to be home with just the baby. I got some rest and I got to have Landon all to myself. He even smiled for the first time. Do I have a wonderful husband or what??
9/25/05: We went to church today and then to Lito and Lita's house to see Tia Patricia and Pechus from Mexico. Landon is being a good boy. He has sleptt most of the time. At church, I missed the sermon again. Landon usually has to eat at 10 AM which is not good timing as far as church goes. Soon I will start giving him pumped bottles so he can eat during the service.
Landon is pretty much on a consistent schedule of eating, sleeping and wake time now. He is only up once at night (around 3AM). Not too bad! We are managing to get at least 5 hrs of sleep straight. I'm enjoying that! He is smiling a little now. But, not like that one night a few days ago. That sure was fun!
The whole family is doing well. We are all loving having a baby in the house!
9/19/05 Landon will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. Time is flying by so fast! His looks are changing a little and he's putting on weight quickly! I'm not quite sure how much he weighs, but I will find out when he is 1 month old. He is looking more like a baby and less like a newborn every day. He is moving a little more now. He kicks things off of the changing table and he gets his hands tangeled in my hair and necklace. He is now doing about 4 hour stretches at night, but that still requires 2 feedings through the night. Sleep is a hot comodody around here!
Madeline had her Back to School Night on Friday. It was nice to see her classroom and talk with her teacher. Maddy is doing really well in school. She hasn't cried 2 times in a row. We are making progress.
Our family went to Universal Studios on Saturday. Christian went with Maddy for a few hours before Emma, Landon and I got there. I went to visit my Grandparents for awhile. They had not seen the baby yet. My children are so blessed to have all their grandparents still living and many of their great-grandparents too.
I'm off to hopefully go catch a few zzzz's before all 3 of my kiddos wake up.
9/12/05- Today is my first day with no help at home. Everything is going greeat so far! We got up and dressed and out the door by 8:30 A.M. to get Madeline to school on time. It's strange to be home without my Madeline; It seems so quiet! I go pick her up at 12:30. She cried again when I dropped her off, but she was done in 20 seconds or so. I wonder how long she will put on this dramatic act for everyone??! When I pick her up, she says she had a great day, so I don't feel sorry for her one bit when she puts on her crying show. She got her first "progress report" on Friday. She had good marks in every category!! Yippee Maddy!
We did end up going to church yesterday. It was fun to show off Landon to all of our friends. Everyone said he was so cute and so little. He started getting hungry in the middle of the service, so I went to the nursury and fed him during the sermon. But, I was back in time to show him off when church let out..That was the important part right??
Landon turns 2 weeks old tomorrow. Time is going so quickly! I am off work for 6 weeks; I hope it doesn't go so fast. I am enjoying all the time I get to spend with "the kids".
Life is going well at the Torresluna house (3 Buckaroo Ranch). Sleep is inconsistent but happening nonetheless. I am back at work and trying to get on top of everything. My department had a baby shower for us and we got many beautiful gifts and diapers too. Those are as good as money. We are debating on whether or not to go back to church tomorrow or enjoy a few more weekends at home with nothing to do. We shall see. The girls are doing great and doing their best to share time with Landon. Thanks for all the comments!
9/9/05 It has been awhile since I have updated on our homepage. Lots has happened in the Torresluna household this week.Christian went back to work on Tuesday and my mom came out to stay with us to help with the baby and the girls. Thank You Mom!! It was wonderful to have her here; she left today. After this weekend I'll be on my own every day. The part that will be the most difficult will be running errands with all three children...in and out of the van. We'll manage.
Madeline started preschool on Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Preschool. She was hesitant about going , but she did pretty well. If you know our Maddy you could guess that she turned on the "water works" and screamed for us not to leave her, but Christian and I stood outside for a few minutes and saw that she stopped crying after about 15 seconds. She went again today and she cried again, but she has a great time and she loves her teacher, Miss Dalena. Our big girl is growing up.
Landon is doing really well. He is sleeping about 4 hours at a time at night and on a 2 1/2 - 3 hour feeding schedule during the day. He has been pretty spoiled thus far since Christian and my mom have been here with me; He loves to be held!! reality should seet in soon- he has 2 sisters that will need attention too and he won't be held all the time. I guess he will just have to get used it. I wish I could hold him all day long...I love to hold newborn babies!! Landon is sweet as can be. He is really a very good baby. He doesn't cry much, and he sleeps a lot! But, like I said he, LOVES to be held!!
Today is my 32nd birthday. My mom was here this morning and took me to a nice breakfast after we dropped off Maddy at preschool. My friend, Liz, joined us. It was nice to start off the morning that way. Then, my mom, Emma and I took Landon by Chritian's work to see a few people. Christian's work threw him a surprise baby shower on his first day back at work. How sweet!! Tonight we spent my birthday in with a meal delivered by a friend from church. She even made me a birthday cake! Our church pulls together and makes dinner for families that have a baby, an illness, or a death in the family. We got meals witht the birth of all three of the kids; How wonderful it is to not have to cook for a couple of weeks! Our church is the best!!
We are all still adjusting to a new baby in the house, especially the lack of sleep. It is worth every second of the sleepless nights. Our son is a precious gift from above!
9/4/05 Life with our new son has been absolutely wonderful! He has been such a good little guy. He's eating and sleeping really well. We read this book called "Baby Wise" when we were pregnant with Maddy; it's about getting your baby on a schedule of eating, sleeping and wake time. It headed us in the right direction then, and we continued to use the suggested schedule for Emma and now Landon. It will take a while to get him onto a schedule, but I'm sure he'll fall into it soon.
Landon is eating about every 3 hours now and sleeping an hour-and-a-half between feedings. He is sleeping between 4-6 hours straight at night. It's not too bad because he is not much of a crier . Christian has been getting up with him to rock him after he eats at night, but he will be back to work on Tuesday, so I don't expect him to up at night as much anymore. Actually, Christian likes to get up with Landon in the middle of the night right now, so maybe he will still do it some after he goes back to work.
Landon's first doctor appointment was on Friday. The pediatritian said everything looks great! His weight was down to 6 lbs, 10 oz. The doctor said that was to be expected to have that much weight loss because I'm breast-feeding and my milk hadn't come in until day three.
The girls are still adjusting to having a little brother. They seem to be fighting with eachother more now than before Landon was born. I think it's because we are not spending as much time with them. It's so hard to divide up the time between three children, especially when I'm nursing 40 minutes every 3 hours. We are trying our best to include the girls in the baby's routine stuff, but it'll take some time for us all to figure this out. They love having the baby in the house, so it should be no time at all.
Today we took the whole family on our first outing together. We went to JCPenney photo studio to have Landon's newborn pictures taken. They came out sooo good!! I was thrilled with the work of our photographer, Jenna. She did some great shots! I ordered them on e-mail so I can post them as soon as they come in.
I will try to update as often as possible. I'm sure you can all imagine how busy we are in the Torresluna house! My mom is coming to stay with us this coming week as Maddy is starting preschool on Wednesday and Christian goes back to work on Tuesday. Here we go...back to normal life! Oh my Gosh...I have 3 kids!!
9/1/05 (Mommy is back to the sory telling now) We had a wonderful day today and an even better night last night! Landon had a rough start before bedtime. He fussed and cried for a couple hours. At about 12:15AM he finally fell asleep and then he sept soundly until I woke him up to eat at 6:30 AM. Who knows how much longer he would have slept! It was so nice to get 6 straight hours of sleep! I wonder what he'll do tonight?!
Today we stayed home all day. Christian has the whole week off of work. He doesn't go back until Tuesday. He has been awesome with the girls and with Landon too. He has been so helpful with housework, cooking, and just about everything!! I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband!
What a joy it is to have a baby in the house again! I love the sounds and smells that babies bring to a home (honestly!) The girls have been really good with him. Maddy is loving being a "new mom". I have to be patient with the girls because they want to be so helpful, but sometimes they just make the task a little more difficult. I love their helpful attitude though!
Both of the girls are a little jealous in their own different ways. Maddy is jealous when someone else wants to hold HER BROTHER. She wants to hold him the entire time. Emma is jealous in the way that most toddlers would be; she wants to be held like a baby too. She's not quite ready to give up her position as the baby of the family. It will probably take a few weeks for the girls to adjust to the newest member of the family, but I think they are doing quite well!
I am crazy about my little boy! He is all that I imagined he would be and more! He was well worth waiting for! It is fun being the mother of a son. I love my Landon John!!
Landon had a good night last night, he slept for a good while. He woke up at 4:30am to cry for an hour and then eat a bit. This was good because he had gone a long time with out eating, all he wanted to do was sleep.
A few hours later he was in the nursery getting a circumcision. I had a hard time watching it, but I did not faint. The Doc used something he called a cigar cutter. It was quite interesting but painful to watch. Kudos to Landon who peed on the nurse first!
We all rested this morning and went home at 3:00. We are very excited to come home and rest in our own bed, kinda. Landon has learned our schedule yet, but that is okay. Liz brought the girls home a bit later and they were excited to see Landon home. Just before, I got a chance to dance with my son. Our song (I have a song with each one of my kids) is "These are the days" by Van Morrison.
Landon has a good set of lungs; ie.e, he can cry with the best of them. So our first night home may be a rough one. We will report in the morning, if we can find the computer.
2:00am-Julie was checked and she was 8cm dialated and they told her it would be 2 to 4 hours before Landon would be here. They told Julie to get some sleep and Christian went across the street to get food.
2:15am-Julie called the nurse in and said she feels him really low and she thinks he's ready to come. They checked and sure enough she was 10cm and fully effaced. IT'S SHOW TIME!!!
2:35am-They call Christian and tell him that Landon is coming and to HURRY! Christian Runs as fast as he can through the hospital to get to the room!
2:50am-Julie had an awesome labor! She pushed 4 times with one contraction...then out he came! Welcome Landon!! Mommy and baby are doing great! Landon was a little cold for a few hours but as soon as his body temperature was back up he had his first bath.
(Cheryl here! I'll be writing updates on Julie and Landon as we find out!)
August 29, 2005
1:00pm-Julie started to have contractions that were 5 minutes apart.
2:00pm- Julie called Christian and told him to come home now! Then She called Jen to come over and stay with the girls while they went to the hospital.
5:35pm-I called Julie. She said that the hospital told her to go walk around for a few hours. She was going to go back to the hospital to see if she was any further along.
9:10pm-Julie called and she was admitted to the hospital. She was 5cm dilated and 75% effaced when she got back from her walk. Her mom & Christian were with her and her sister Tina and Dad met them at the hospital at 8:45. They are going to break her water within the hour and she will get her epidural then.
8/29/05 Today is my due date..no baby so far! Every minute feels like an eternity right now. Not that I'm super uncomfortable, I just want to have my little boy in my arms! I think Christian is more impatient than I am. He spent all Saturday "nesting". He washed the windows of the house, sprayed the screens, mopped the floors, dusted, cleaned out the spice/medicine cabinet, and washed both cars!! You would think he was the one having a baby! He is excited to meet his son too.
My doctor apointment on Friday went well. The doctor said that it could be any day. I am dialated to 3 centimetes and 50 per cent efaced. Hopefully soon....
8/29/05 Yesterday we went to church and then headed to Lito and Lita's house for the day. We thought maybe if I went swimming all day it would bring on labor (didn't work!) It was 105 degrees in Corona; luckily they have air conditioning. We had lunch at their house and then all 6 of us laid down for a quick nap that lasted 2 hours for everyone. It was very nice to sleep in such a cool house. We don't have air conditioning at our house, so it was a treat! After napping, we all went over to Montse's apartment and swam for a couple of hours. It was so refreshing. Maddy enjoyed showing off her new skills for everyone. We went back to the house for dinner and then headed home afterwards. It was a fun and relaxing day; it's always nice to spend the day with family!
8/28/05 Here it is, 10:30 P.M. on the night before our due date. We are getting a little impatient here now. I guess we were kind of expecting to be late since both girls were late, but it doesn' t make it any less frustrating. Hey, who knows maybe tonight will be the night and Landon witll be born on his due date??! Time will tell...Good night!
8/23/05 Madeline is definitely a swimmer now. She can hold her breath under water no problem! She can swim width of most pools. She is now able to pick her head up ou tof the water and take breaths. It is so much fun to watch her!! It has been interesting to watch the progression over the last few weeks. She has gone swimming about 8 times over the last 3 weeks. She is amazing! She is so proud of herself too. The last time we went swimming she must have jumped off the diving board (in the deep end) about 50 times! She swims over to the ladder and gets out and does it over and over and over....
8/26/05 We are still anxiously waiting. We thought he would be here by now. But, Landon is taking his sweet time. Only 3 days left until my due date. I am feeling pretty good still. I can still walk long distances and get up and down from any posistion. Most people think I don't look ready to have a baby. But, I feel very ready! Landon feels heavy; I feel like the muscles in the lower part of my belly are being stretched beyond tehir capacity. I have another dr. apt. today. She will do an exam to see how far I am dialated. Hopefully it will be at least 3 cm.
I plan on sending out an e-mail to all as soon as he is born. So, check your computers often to see the specs of our little boy! Hey, maybe tonight???
8/19/05 The Torresluna household is very ready to greet the arrival of our little boy. It could be any day that he tells us he's ready, but we all are ready right now! Hopefully he won't be late like both of the girls. I have had contractions (Braxton-Hicks) here and there, but nothing consistent. It's frustrating to have the contractions because I get so excited that it might be the start of labor, but it hasn't yet. I will be patient, I don't want to rush him. But, I would be thrilled to go into labor at this very moment.
Yesterday we went to the Whieldons' house for a MnM Club swim day. It was a great day for swimming because it was so hot! Maddy was jumping off the diving board and swimming to the stairs with no "water wings". She is really starting to swim well! I wouldn't let her in the pool without waterwings if I wasn't in there, but if I'm close, she can swim without them.
Emma got her hair cut while we were there. She had never had the back of it cut before and it was a little straggly and uneven. I had her cut it at shoulder length. It looks adorable! It really makes Emma look a lot older! But, I'm happy with the cut.
Araceli Ross and Claudia White threw me the cutest baby shower!! They worked around the theme of Landon's bedroom- cowboy. They had plates and napkins, a rocking horse, cowboy boots, table clothes, even stick horse lolly-pop party favors. They served chicken and beans to go along with the theme. I and the guests had a wonderful time. It was so nice to see my friends and family there!!
8/5/05 Yesterday Amanda invited the girls and I to go swimming at her hotel in Cerritos. It was a nice day for a swim and we all had a great time. Emma can't stop talking about the "kakuzzi" (jacuzzi). Maddy is so close to being able to swim without any assistance, but she still has some fear. She really enjoys the freedom to get around when she has on her "water wings".
Today at 1:15, I have my icky doctor's apointment. She will do the pelvic exam to check out the posistion of the baby. She will also be able to tell me if I am dialated. I am not looking forward to it at all. It is VERY uncomfortable!
Tomorrow is my baby shower thrown by Araceli Ross and Claudia White. I am excited to see friends and family that I havn't seen in a while. Showers are always so much fun! It's exciting to see new baby things, it will make these next few weeks just fly by!! I can't believe Landon could arrive any time now! (But, I'm guessing I still have a few weeks).
8/3/05 Check out what we're doing to our house. We have done a lot of moving around furniture to make room for Landon. I took a few pictures of the place..see what you think!
8/1/05- Week 37
Our baby is considered a full-term pregnancy even though the
40-week mark is still 3 weeks away . The doctors consider 37 to 42 weeks a normal length pregnancy. He is probably about 6 pounds and measures 19 inches in length.
It is getting a little easier to breathe. That's
because the baby has moved downward in preparation for
delivery. He will "drop" right before I go into
labor, but the trade-off is increased pressure in the
pelvic area. Make sure you are aware of the early signs of
labor. Most women have plenty of time, but it is not unheard
of for the time from labor to delivery to be relatively
short. I need to consider staying close to home and not find myself
hours away when labor begins.
Landon is moving downward a little. I am not carrying as high as I was a couple of weeks ago. But, I still feel him under my ribcage sometimes; it's not very comfortable. He is moving a lot still, we can see his entire body move across my belly. It's pretty freaky looking! Christian and I wonder if Landon will be a bigger baby than the girls were becase my tummy is bigger than the last two times. Because this is a boy, I may just carry boys totally different than girls?? I am down to my weekly doctor apaoointments now. I go on Friday afternoon. She will do a pelvic exam to check if the baby is "head-down" and to see if I'm dialated at all. I would be happy to deliver early, but not yet because his room isn't ready for him. (Not like what I say matters...He'll come when he's good and ready!)
