September 8th 2007

Jasmin started playschool and halfday childcare (9am to 1230pm) at Skoolhouse In the Spring on September 4th, tuesday (monday was teacher's day holiday so no school). Skoolhouse in the Spring used to be under the Little Skoolhouse franchise, but recently they branched off and became private.

I was very worried and concerned that she would be scared as the school does not allow parents to sit in with the kids during the first few days. Right off the bat, from day 1, i would have to hand Jasmin to the teacher and leave her there.

The teachers told me i could sit and wait in the office, but they were worried i would not be able to tahan her crying and wailing, so they advised me to go home first. True enough, the first day, Jasmin was clinging to me and crying/wailing when the teacher tried to carry her. When I heard her cry, i also felt like crying. So i hurried home, and would return to pick her up 45mins later.

The teachers and i agreed that the first two days, we would try her out for 45 mins each, and subsequently play by ear and extend the time she would stay in school, depending on how she adapts.

Here's how Jasmin fared in her first week of school:-

Sept 4th 2007 - tuesday
Day 1 - brought jasmin to school, where she stayed from 915 to 10am.. cried when teacher tried to carry her.. cried on and off, stopped when her classmates were singing songs, and stopped for a while when they started painting. then cried and painted at the same time :)

here's the painting she did while crying

Sept 5th 2007 - wednesday
Day 2 - teacher said jasmin cried for about 10-15 mins, then stopped when they started to get the paints out etc. When i picked her up, they were having outdoor play, and jasmin was playing with the toy car and slide outside already.. her classmates are all so friendly..patting her on the shoulder, holding her hand, feeding her water from her water bottle etc. today jasmin stayed in school for 45mins again

Sept 6th 2007 - Thursday
Day 3 - Jasmin didn't cry when i handed her over to the teacher. She was clinging to me, and could tell that she was still a bit worried and scared, but after i hugged and kissed her several times and told her to go playwith her friends and wait for mummy there while mummy went to do some stuff, she let the teacher hold her hand and lead her into the class..when i picked her up at 11am (915-11am), she was playing with her classmates

Sept 7th  2007 - Friday
Day 4 - Jasmin still clung to me when we walked into the school compound/garden, but she allowed the teacher to carry her after mummy hugged and kissed her.. no crying, so far so good.

Here are some pics of Jasmin's 2nd, 3rd and 4th day in school.

Keeping my fingers crossed, hope that Jasmin continues to adapt well and enjoy school!

Jasmin loves to climb in and out of laundry baskets. Sometimes, she would empty the full baskets by throwing the clothing out, and then climb inside. Here's a vid of her having fun playing in the laundry basket.

Jasmin's hair is trimmed by my mother. (my mum cut my hair for me when i was young too, so Jasmin's hairstyle is the same as mine was keke)

Good for us, cause Jasmin is willing to let her cut it, and not struggle as much as when we bring her to Junior League. Also, saves us money cause Jasmin's hair grows quite fast haha

August 28th 2007

Since my last post on Jasmin's growth update & development in May when she was 21 months old, Jasmin is now (at 24months) able to:-

- identify and name colours such as red, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink, white, black, grey
- identify and name numbers 1-12 in numeral and one to twelve in written form
- identify and pronounce the phonic sounds of A to Z
- express herself more, and often speak in short phrases like Wash hands, pick up, take out/off', put on, gai gai, go outside, lie down, excuse me, go down, watch tv, off tv, go downstairs, upstairs, i love you, thank you, xie xie, hold hands, wear bib and use the word Where eg. hanky where?, ah mi where? ball where? ..however, she still cannot speak in long sentences.
- understand the concept and say/use action/descriptive words and do the actions, like spoil, tear, crush, drop, throw, fun, tickle, pinch, whisper, kiss, hug, roll, twist, kick, crawl, smack or piak etc
- understand simple instructions like "can you bring mummy's handphone to me? its on the bed in the other room" or "put the xxx on mummy's bed" or "put back the box on the shelf" or "wipe your feet on the mat" etc
- identify and read at least 400 written words (i know at least 400 cause 200 from Your Baby Can Read and 200 from flash cards i have shown her)
- play matching card game (eg. present her with jumbled up 8 pairs of different pictures (total 16 cards) and ask her to match them up in pairs
- (motor skill development) jump, hop, run, kick ball, throw and roll ball, bounce ball/balloon few times, catch ball or balloon when we throw to her, do forward and backward commando crawl quite fast (lie down, use her forearms/elbows and crawl/pull her body forward and backwards) etc

And Jasmin is so sweet, (lol mummy praising her own daughter)she will come rub noses with me every morning to wake me up. And at night, she will stroke my face when we're lying down together, come kiss my cheek or rub noses with me, and sometimes say I love you..although it sounds like eye-le-youuu. But one thing that puzzles me is that, she can't sing! Even though mummy has been singing to her everyday since she was 1 month old, and she listens to cds and watches dvds with lots of music, songs etc, her singing is kind of toneless and tuneless hehe her version of Elmo's song goes something like "la la la la la la elmo song"..every note in the same C key/pitch.. oh well, guess mummy has to try harder to teach jasmin then :o)

Something to share. Last night, Jasmin's daddy walked into the toilet and bumped his elbow hard against the door. He exclaimed loudly and i asked him what happened. The conversation went something like this..
Daddy : "Ouucchhh!"
Mummy: "What happened?"
Daddy: "I knocked against the door.."
Mummy: "Which part?Aiyo, Pain or not?"
Daddy: "My elbow.."
Meanwhile, Jasmin is standing in between us. Suddenly, halfway into our short conversation, she starts smacking the door, while saying "Bad.." smack one time, scold the door Bad one time. She did this for three or four times. Then she said."Ohhh..ouch, elbow pain pain.." and pointed to her father, then she rubbed her elbow. Although we were talking very fast and not directly to her, Jasmin could  understand and process what we were saying and react immediately. Wah, mummy and daddy better watch what comes out from our mouths man... ;P

August 19th 2007

Today our cutie turns 2yrs old! Instead of having a big celebration like last year, we decided to keep it low key and just keep it among the direct family members.

As Jasmin loves elmo, we ordered a sesame street/elmo cake from Pine Garden for her (choc raspberry flavour) and prepared gift bags for her cousins with Elmo goodies such as Elmo cookies, memo pad, memory card game inside. Actually there was also supposed to be mylar Elmo balloons, but it was raining the whole morning, so didn't really have the chance to go and fill them up with helium.

Here are some pics and vids to share:-

Recently, i bought a vcd for Jasmin titled Wow! That's What I call Nursery Rhymes! Its a very upbeat video of a group of kids and adults singing nursery rhymes, and its made in the UK. Jasmin loves this video so much, she can watch it 3 to 4 times a day if i do not limit/stop her! Jasmin loves to bop to the music, copy the dance moves & actions of the cast on the screen.

Seeing that she watches it so often, i decided to purchase the dvd version because it is of better audio and visual quality than the vcd (don't want to spoil her eyes since she's watching it soooo often). Alas, as it is from the UK, the US websites like Amazon, Deepdiscount etc do not carry it. So i had to order it direct from the UK.

Here's a vid of her grooving along with the dvd. (its quite a long clip, about 4mins long, but can see how she tries to copy the different actions for different songs)

Some nights, i would let Jasmin wear Fuzzy Bunz cloth diapers to sleep. Because Jasmin is a heavy pee-er, i need to use 3 layers of inserts in the diapers, making the diapers are very fat and poufy. As a result, Jasmin waddles like a duck when she walks around in the diapers, looking like a mini sumo wrestler haha

July 11th 2007

Most toddlers like to play with the mop, broom, dustpan, magic cleaner stick etc. Jasmin is no exception. Every morning, she would grab the mop from the maid, and in the evening, she would want to play with the broom and dustpan and sweet the porch/driveway. At my mum's place, she would try to imitate the maid sweeping the driveway too :)

July 10th 2007

One of Jasmin's daily activities is to scribble or draw. She would do this for about 15-30mins a day (split over few sessions). So far, she has gone through 6 drawing blocks of paper already (4 at our house, 2 at my mum's place).

Here's the budding artist in action!
