Garrett is finally beginning to feel better. On Thursday, we ended up at Children's Health Care, where they did chest X-rays and the poor little guy has pneumonia. They gave him a shot and on Friday, his fever had finally broke and he was smiling and playing. We went back to his pediatrician on Friday and he gave us a prescription for an antibiotic for the pneumonia. Filling the prescription is a WHOLE different story and one that I am still too upset to talk about.
Hopefully, I am finally going to get a chance to enjoy having a healthy 6-month old who likes to play. I'm afraid he's gotten too used to being in my arms the past couple of weeks. My mom may have a rough time of it when she starts babysitting again next week! Garrett has started rolling all across the floor. He won't stay on his belly for more than a few seconds, so no crawling yet. He just rolls and rolls. He also LOVES glasses. Tommy puts on his glasses at night and Garrett goes crazy! Of course, it doesn't help any that Tommy takes them off and lets him play with them. I think Garrett liked his doctors because they all wore glasses too! He tried to grab them off one of the doctors. And he really grins at me when I'm wearing my sunglasses.
I've been a Mommy now for over 6 months! Time has flown and I truly can't believe how much my life has changed - all for the better! Garrett had his 6-month check-up right before Christmas. He was 28.5 inches long (95% on the chart) and 17 lbs 4 oz (50% on the chart). So, he's still really tall, but his weight gain has slowed down a bit. This may also be because he's been sick since November. We thought it was just RSV (Bronchiolitis) and that he would get better. But this week, we found out he has the flu. He's been miserable - when he's not sleeping, he's crying or whining. It just breaks my heart. His wheezing is bad and the doctor says that he may be developing asthma. We will need to see a pulmonary specialist soon. When he's not sick, he's such a happy baby and it's just awful to see him so grumpy and feverish.
Luckily, we have great doctors. Dr. Brown is our favorite family chiropractor and I would be lost without her advice. She has three boys and is always there to answer my questions. Garrett always feels better and sleeps better after visiting and he likes to flirt with his favorite office ladies, Rita, Lisa and Judy. Dr. Abrams is our pediatrian and he always is prompt in returning my phone calls! Our other family doctor is Dr. Seneca Anderson (

). He is our naturopathic family doctor whom I trust completely. He is such a kind man who always takes time to listen to what's going on and helps his patients heal their bodies, not just their symptoms. He has been instrumental in helping me with my seizures.
We had a wonderful, busy Christmas and New Year. Garrett loved the wrapping paper, but didn't notice too much what was in the packages. He received so many neat toys and clothes and got tons of hugs and kisses from everyone.
Happy New Year to All!
Last weekend, we helped Allison move into her new townhome. I shouldn't say "we" - my dad and Allison's dad did most of the hard work. But I did lend my truck. Garrett was with us the whole time and did great. He was good at giving directions (I'm not sure where he gets that from . . .) as you can see from the new pictures. We're all excited for Allison - she is an official homeowner now and no longer a renter! Yeah!
The ice storm on Thursday left us without any power last night. So luckily, my mom (Mimi) let us crash at her place. Tommy and I probably could have survived, but I didn't want Garrett to sleep in a freezing house. It all worked out ok and we got a big breakfast out of it.
I can't believe the holidays are just around the corner. I can't wait! I know Garrett can't get much out of it yet, but he sure LOVES the wrapping paper!
Wow! Garrett had a busy day today. Mommy took the day off work to go Christmas shopping, but first, she and Mimi had to take Baby G to the doctor. His cold was not getting any better, even though he was sleeping and eating okay and didn't have a fever. Dr. Abrams examined him and Garrett does have a baby form of bronchitis (or RSV). So now he has to have some breathing treatments, but he should be fine soon. Garrett is just a little wheezy, but otherwise doing great. After the doc, Mommy was still on a mission to finish shopping, so we went out and about with Mimi to the Mall. Then we had our picture made with Santa Claus. Garrett loved Santa's white gloves - he wanted to chew on Santa's fingers and he almost grabbed Santa's beard. Garrett did great all day long. He really likes riding in his stroller and watching everything. At one point, he started playing with his feet. He's grabbed them before, but never played with them like this. It was so cute - he was sitting in his stroller, but he had pulled his leg up to his face so he could grab his toes! Six different people thought he was a baby GIRL today since he was wearing gender-neutral red Santa clothes. I just told them "No, but he's pretty enough to be a girl!" Our mission was accomplished, the presents were bought and Garrett made it safely back home, where he had his bath and went straight to sleep!
Garrett is growing so fast! He goes in a couple of weeks for his 6 month check-up - I can't wait to see how much he's grown. He had a lot of fun at Thanksgiving in South Georgia with all his family. He was really spoiled down there and it took me almost a week to get him back on schedule. He's finally started sleeping better - Yeah! But he's had his first cold too, which has been stressful on Mommy. He's feeling a lot better lately. He's doing the funniest things now. He really wants to attack and terrorize our two cats. Miss Emmy runs from him as fast as he can, but The Chunky One (also known as Fatty Fleabags by his Daddy) just sits there and lets Garrett dig his hands into his fur. Garrett just laughs and laughs. He also loves my mom's dog, Boo (a miniature Schnauzer on eye level with Garrett). He loves trying to grab Boo's mustache! And Boo has become very very protective of Garrett. Boo won't let any stranger close to her baby. Garrett has also become kind of clingy lately. He doesn't like it when he can't see me! He loves when his Daddy comes home. He automatically lifts up his arms and starts squealing! He and his daddy will have a tickle fest for hours! He loves holding his pacifier and gnawing on it, but he won't suck it. He just likes falling asleep with it in his hand. Garrett LOVES watermelon. I put a piece of it in his mesh teething bag and Garrett goes CRAZY. You can't get it away from him. He sucks all the juice out of the watermelon and it is all over him when he's done with it. He also likes gnawing on a big carrot stick. It's just the right size for him to grab. He loves bananas and isn't' too sure about squash. But mostly he's still drinking his breast milk. He loves watching everybody else eat though. I swear his arms are 10 feet long - they can reach anything, especially if I have a glass in my hand and him in the other! He's going to be wanting his own cup any time now! That's enough for now - I think he's waking up! Love to ALL!
