Five on Friday

1.  Jada came to play today.  Since she left, I've found a hidden sippy cup and a pair of sunglasses.... not sure if Hadley hid them hoping to keep them or if Jada hid them hoping to stay!

2.  No school for Wyatt today.  He had another "day at work with dad."

3.  Joe didn't get to bowl this week.  He did finally get his AR done, but only got 80%.  He did, however, score very well on his vocab test.

4.  Joe is starting "Farmer Boy"  Mama set the goal of 60 pages a day to get it done by the end of the month.  It's worth 9 AR points (that's a lot.)

5.  Hadley cried for 30 minutes yesterday when I picked her up at daycare.  She wanted to ride in her new carseat (which was in Travis's vehicle!)

Ten on Tuesday.. written on Wednesday :)

1.  I've been teaching Oliver how to make a "surprised" face.  When he participates.. it's hilarious.  His entire mouth makes the biggest O shape you've ever seen.

2.  Wyatt's teacher opened my eyes (at parent/teacher conferences) to a side of Wyatt I didn't know existed.  It's not a good side.

3.  Joe has by 3 today to finish his AR book, take the test, and score above 90% to be allowed to bowl this week.  I'm driving to his school, walking into the classroom, and verifying with the teacher.  I'm trying to crack down.

4.  I feel sorry for Tom Petters.  I think he got in over his head and got set up.

5.  Hadley asked me for a baby for Christmas.  Not a doll baby, a real baby.

6.  Our craft of the day was "Handy Candy."  It's cute.  I love crafts.

7.  I'm going to St. Cloud with my besties tonight to celebrate Becky's birthday.

8.  I'm buying 2 new carseats when I'm there.

9.  I had to pick up the kids at daycare yesterday and my seats were in Atwater with papa.  Yikes....

10.  Hadley got a new Barbie sticker book at the book fair yesterday and there are now stickers on her toys, my legs and arms, the furniture, and all of her dolls' eyes are covered.

Hadley... on day 3 of un-kept hair...

Mama says "Oh Hadley, you look like such a rag-a-muffin :)"

Hadley, "Do we HAVE MUFFINS??"

Mama, "Well, no."

Hadley, "Let's go buy some at the store."

And, I have to share this story I heard last night.  Hadley had a sleepover at Auntie Katey's last week.  Travis left Katey a voicemail wondering what Hadley was up to.  He started his message off with "Katey Kadelbach"  Katey was playing it for Hadley and Auntie Nicole to listen to.  Hadley says, "Dad said KATEY CANAPOP!!!"  Hahahahaha.  Funny stories.

Five on Friday

1.  I am, officially, the worst mother in the world.  Travis wanted Oliver to sleep with us last night.  He was up every 1/2 hour crying ALL NIGHT.  Finally around 5, Travis asked me if I had checked his diaper.  Sure enough, he had been sitting in a dirty diaper for a good, long time.  Poor little butt was raw.  WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THAT?  shame. shame.

2.  Hadley got her H1N1 vaccine today, which was really the mist... so I freaked her out for nothing.

3.  We had lunch at Cricket Meadow today with Grandma Debbie.  Oliver = beast.

4.  Joe had 2 tests yesterday.  He got a 40/40 and a 10/10.  SERIOUSLY, why does he tease me like that?  Is there hope for all A's this quarter?  Everyone needs just a little bit of hope...

5.  Yesterday I made Apricot Chicken in the crockpot for supper.  I de-boned the leftovers, turned around and filled the crockpot with Chicken Chili for tomorrow.  That was very resourceful of me.
Comments
That chicken sounds awesome! And that was incredibly resourceful of you to maks the chili now! :) I love reading your updates everyday!

I bet everyone will be glad when my week off is over so I stop these daily updates ;)  Well, it's over tomorrow.. so appreciate the last one here.

Hadley threw up all over me in my bed this morning.  She kind of laid around for 30 minutes or so and then was fine.  When we were talking about she felt, she told me she never threw up.. her doll did that!  She was supposed to have a playdate but I had to cancel.  She ended up going home with Auntie Katey tonight for a sleepover with Jada.  Sure hope the puke was a one time thing and she doesn't get sick for them.

Joe.  I never got my story back.  I had written all about him and the way he is.  He's different from me.  It doesn't bother him in the least to have grades that aren't up to my standards.  Most of you know, we don't go to church.  Not because we don't believe or don't think it's important.. but honestly because once you get out of the routine of going.. it's nearly impossible to get back into the swing of things.  Joe begs to go to a local youth group every Wednesday and we take him.  A friend invited him, and he loves it.  He brings his bible when we go camping or on any trips.  He reads it frequently.  Getting him to read other books is like pulling teeth.  He asks me all kinds of questions about religion that I cannot answer.  It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling to know that his heart is in the right place, even if academics are a huge battle between mama and boy.  This is where we are right now.  If he is happy with youth group, bowling, and playing with his siblings... why can't I accept that this is enough?   I think this is the part of life when the mama needs to start letting go a little bit and realizing it's not her life to live...  It's hard for me... I still lay out his clothes most days ;) He's happy.  Why can't I be?

Cloth diapers.  We had to take a week break from them because Ollie had an allergic reaction to the Target brand diapers he was using at daycare (Daycare will not use cloth.)  He got some heavy duty cream and it stains the cloth diapers.  We are back on schedule now and I can really say that I do not miss the disposables.  I do need to clarify, however, the reasons that we use them.  Someone commented recently on the cost of a diaper service vs. disposables.  Cloth diapers are not cheap and this is not why I started using them.  I would estimate the cost of disposables per week at around $20.  I have AT LEAST $700 invested in my stash, and I've purchased nearly everything used.  The cost of a new diaper can be as much as $40 each.  We use them because #1  I think all of those disposables sitting in landfills is wrong.  I'm not a tree-hugger by any means, but I do feel we each need to do our part to not destroy the planet.  And, #2  I don't want  a chlorine soaked chemically made diaper covering the reproductive organs of my child 24 hours a day.  If someone would have given me cloth diapers 11 years ago, I would have been sold back then.  I'll get off my soapbox now.

Have a great weekend.. see you all next week.  Um, although I may try to sneak in a Five on Friday if I can...

I"ve got an entire story about Joe typed up.. and babyhomepages froze on my computer.  It's still locked up on the screen so if I can get it back I will re-post... Otherwise, here are the report cards!  Is it mean of me to publish them?  Sort of?  I figured since I talk about grades, reward systems, and my children's' attitudes toward school.. you all have a right to see the end result?  If this is bad-parenting.. I pre-apologize to my children who may very well be in therapy someday due to my parenting ;)

The grades were published online, so I haven't gotten my copy that explains the whole "S, E, and 3" thing yet.  I forgot to take that grading system into consideration when making the reward system.  Yikes, I'll have to improvise when I get my copies in the mail.

The "C" in Phy-ed. is weird.  Joe got that grade back in his 4th grade days too.  Apparently, in 4th grade... Phy-ed. consists of written tests on the rules of weird sports like badminton and archery...  I might just pay him for that grade just because that's a public school load of crap that I'm not in sync with :)  Wyatt's pretty athletic... or so he tells me ;)...  He got 2nd place in the mile and some various other activities that I forget.  I think the change in phy-ed grading is an attempt at being politically correct in a world of big fat lazy kids... hahahahaha.  (This is coming from someone who can't even walk a mile.. so don't be offended :)

TEN ON TUESDAY

1.  Hadley and Ollie take 2 baths everyday.  After breakfast and before/after supper.  Seriously, I can scrub the bathroom floors and/or fold the laundry while they are occupied.  Now that we are laptop owners, I catch up on my fave sites while they are soakin' in the bubbly.

2.  This may account for some serious dry skin this winter!

3.  I love going out for lunch with friends.  Even if I bring my busy kids with, it puts me in a really great mood for the rest of the day.  I think it just breaks up the day, gets us out of the house, and there is truly nothing better than great conversation.  Even if we don't really have anything to say... just the idea of talking is fantastic.  I've been the last 2 days.  I'm hopeful for the next 2. :)

4.  I haven't been caught up on laundry since 2007.  That's not a joke ;)

5.  If I didn't blog, I'd be caught up.

6.  I'm not going to stop blogging or blog-stalking, so the laundry will wait.

7.  I made a disgusting Tuna helper boxed meal for supper.  They all loved it and were sad when the pot was empty.  Why is it the meals that I put real effort into get blah reviews.. but the tuna helper was all "ooohs and aahs?"

8.  I'm totally impressed with the fall line up on television.  I haven't been a TV watcher since Friends went off the air.  I LOVE Mercy, Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Witches of Eastwick, and The Good Wife.  Thanks to our new DVR.. that I don't know how to run... I actually get to watch them most weeks.

9.  Travis + Sarah = Desperate Housewives ADDICTS.  It's our Sunday night thing.  He only watches it because he knows I like that he does... or so he says ;) ;)

10.  Yes, I know.  My rotting pumpkins need to leave my front step.  I always have trouble letting my seasonal items go.  I just took the 2008 Holiday cards off the wall a few weeks ago.
Comments
Too funny. I just took the 2008 Holiday cards down on Saturday.

I agree with #10! Me and Kenlie could barely get into the house cuz there was so many pumpkins in the way! :)

Funny, ny hubby and I have our Sun Desp Housewife thing too.

Pretty sure that Housewives is the ONLY thing that Glendon and I will watch together! We may have to start a club!

I have rotting pumpkins too!

Not to worry, my mood has improved from yesterday ;)  I'm sure my ravings made little sense to most of you, but believe me... it really did have a point.  That's neither here nor there....

AGGHHHH.. How about this weather?  AMAZING, I'm in love.  Joe, Hadley, and Ollie have been playing outside and I've got the screen doors wide open.  I love listening to them playing outside while I get some things organized (and stop for a moment to reflect here.)  This is the weather that September and October didn't give us.   Wyatt went along on a "Take your child to work" day with Travis.  He was SO excited.  I'm hoping this gives him some added motivation to continue to study hard, read lots, and strive to get excellent grades so that a career in medicine or law will entail ;)  Travis is hoping this gives him motivation so that he may change the name of the business to W & Sons Construction..... :)

Ollie has a fascination with the toilet.  He loves to lift the lid and climb up and sit like he is really using it (except he doesn't know how to take his pants off yet...lol.)  He also lifts up both lids and stands right in front of it and tries to unbutton his pants.  Pretty funny.

I think you make a lot of sense! I have felt the same way. Sometime I feel a bit cheated because I share so much and people who read my blog act like they know what is going on with our family but I have no idea what is going on with them. Maybe I am not the one making sense!;) Someday I think this will give us a lot of joy. We will remember the little things that we might of forgot!

I didn't see it but Grandpa said Wyatt was way up high helping with the shed to bad I didn't get a picture! Now he can say he helped build that shed!

I have some questions for my fellow bloggers.  I'm pretty sure that a good number of my viewers blog just like I do... so here are my complaints / questions.

Do you ever feel like the people that are supposed to be involved in your lives read your stories and look at your pictures and thus that makes them feel as if they are involved in your lives when they are truly disconnected from your children?    Do people get so involved in reading about your life that they forget they are missing it?  Does that make sense?

I don't know why, but this has been bothering me lately... more like eating at me.  It almost (and I say ALMOST) makes me feel like I need to break from this so others will notice that my children are growing up without them.

I'm a blog stalker.  The first to admit it.  I have at least 10 blogs stored in my faves that I hit up every couple of days.  Nearly all of them are folks that I have never, and will never, meet.  But let me tell you... I look at those families and feel like I could sit down with a pot of coffee and converse with them as if we have always known each other.   It's an odd feeling, really.. but that's the year 2009 and the way technology rolls.  Online blog friendships are a pretty hot trend right now.  So my point is, it truly feels like I'm in those kids lives.. when we haven't met.

Because I feel like this, I know that others feel like this about my little ones as well.  So, fellow bloggers, input?  Did I just confuse more than get my point across?  How do I continue blogging if I feel it's harming the relationships my children have with (or in this case, do not have with) others?  Lots of questions...

Of course, the #1 reason I blog is FOR MY KIDS.  I can't even fathom how awesome it will be for my little ones to look back at everything we did, everything I thought, all the funny (and naughty) little things they did... pretty much read their tri-weekly diaries from toddlerhood long after it's all been forgotten.  So the blogging must go on.

If I confused you, just forget about everything you just read.  I'm sure my thoughts are over your head anyhow.  Here are the things in my toddler diary this weekend.

Oliver had his very 1st sleepover at Grandma Debbie and Grandpa Frans' house.  I think he loved it?  He didn't act like he missed us a whole lot when we picked him up.  Travis thought he was sort of mad at us for leaving and gave us that "I'm to good for you look."  Hadley was a busy little lady.  Joe and Wyatt got into some trouble for riding their four wheelers over to Jason and Katey's :)  That's funny.. since Grandma knew Joe was grounded from the wheeler in the first place...  Auntie Nicole didn't work all weekend so she helped out, I think ;)

Please enjoy the music of Jack Ingram, The Eli Young Band, and Gary Allan... all of whom I had the pleasure of seeing in concert this weekend with my awesome husband.  All it takes is a weekend adventure to make me appreciate how truly lucky I am.  I think we've got a pretty good thing going.  We might fight like cats and dogs... but at the end of the day, we have the same point of view on 99% of things we encounter... and for that, I AM THANKFUL.

I understand what you're saying about the blogging. (I think!) It does seem like that happens sometimes, but I don't want to stop my site, either! I do really think the kids will be happy once they're older that we wrote all these funny/cute/gross/naughty stories down! AND - just think of how fun it will be for their kids to read!!!
I'm so glad you guys had a fun week-end away! We really need that sometimes!

I'm so with you on all the ins and outs of blogging, etc. Glad you guys had a wonderful weekend! God bless - Holly

While looking on ebay at dresses.. Hadley was sitting on my lap "helping" to choose... I said, "Oh Hadley, this one is so pretty.  Would you wear that for Christmas?"  Hadley said, "Oh Mama, WOULD SHE (the model pictured with the dress on) TAKE IT OFF?"  Funniest thing I've heard yet today.

As I type, she's laying at my feet telling me over and over again that she wants another baby at our house ;)  She adds to her begging... "I really want Kate's baby.  Please, please, can we have Kate's baby?"  (meaning Sophie :)
