Arrivederci Italia
It doesn't seem that long ago that we arrived on the rotator at Aviano with a precious 3 year old and 10 month old little "tub of love".
![]() ![]() I can still remember getting off of the plane saying, "The mountains are right there!" It was a beautiful day, not too hot even though it was July. We were so excited to be there and anxious to find a house and get settled. We had no idea what God had in store for us for the next (almost) 3 years. We had no idea that we would experience some of our highest highs and also some of our lowest lows during our time there. That is exactly what we did. We met some amazing people, made life-long friends, traveled throughout Europe and welcomed a new addition to our family. We faced some tough challenges along the way, reminding us just how precious life really is. We are greatful for our time spent in Italy and none of us were quite ready to say goodbye. The only thing that made it a little easier was knowing how excited everyone was on the other side of the world that we were coming "home".
That brings us to the newest update. We are in Texas, staying with my parents until we have a house to move into. The trip back was fairly uneventful once we actually made it on the plane in Venice. The girls did great and everyone kept commenting on what good travelers they were. Little did they know, they have become expert travelers. As soon as we got back, Chris and I immediately started shopping-house shopping, phone shopping, car shopping-you know, all of the big stuff. Unfortunately for me, none of those things are found at Target. (But I have gotten to go there to buy diapers! ha! ha!) The exciting news is that we have found a house that we love. It has everything we wanted and more (including a pool for this HOT Texas weather!) and if all goes well, we will close and move in by the end of July. We will definitely keep you posted with that. We are still carless. Our car is somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean, headed this way. We are planning on buying a Honda Odyssey (yes, Chris is giving in to us buying a minivan!), but we are currently waiting for more info on the 2011 because rumor is that they are changing the body style. I think Chris is hoping that it will be the first minivan that doesn't actually look like a minivan! Chris starts working for the civilian company next week, and will start with the Reserves mid July.
The girls are doing great. Courtney and Kelsey have been swimming almost every day since we got here. Avery is growing and changing so much. She is smiling and starting to "talk" to us more. If we could understand what she is saying, we think that most of the time it would be, "I love you Kelsey, but can you please leave me alone for a minute." Yes, Kelsey still LOVES her little sister!
We have gotten to see some friends and family, and it is so nice to not feel rushed to see everyone in just a short visit. Here are some new pictures and a video of Avery in action. There are more pictures on the picture page, and I will continue to keep you posted with everything.
Please sign the guestbook so we know you were here and so that Courtney has some new entries to read.
Kelsey, Megan, Courtney and Hannah all dressed up!
Avery (2 months) and Emma(4 months) just hanging out.
All of the girls with the Rice kids. Can you believe how big they are?!?! Emily just graduated from college (yes, that should make you feel old!), Charlie is going to be a senior next year, and Mary Margaret will be a freshman. They are just as sweet as ever and my girls love them almost as much as I do! =)
Avery has something to say...

Stories Courtney's Artwork: The picture in the pictures page of Courtney's artwork comes with a really neat story. Every year the principal gets to choose one piece of artwork in the entire elementary school for the school to keep. Courtney came home telling us that her artwork was going to be framed and kept at the school, and we didn't ...
Avery's 1 month update: How is Avery doing? She is just as sweet as sweet can be. In all seriousness, we couldn't ask for a better baby. I think she knows that she HAS to be good since we have two other monkeys to take care of and we have a lot of changes headed our way. The on...
What is going on with the move? Chris has accepted a job with a company in Fort Worth, so he now has a part time job with the Air Force Reserve unit and a part time job with a civilian contracting company. He will have to tell you more about that later, but he is happy and excited about the change. We still don't know our exact ...
Avery's Baptism: Avery was Baptized on Easter Sunday when she was only one week old. How did we plan that? Well, we didn't know if it was going to happen or not since we didn't know when Baby was going to arrive. We had talked about the possibility and discussed it with the Chaplain and tentatively planned for&nb...
